Re: Kilauea Hawaii - 03/07/99 01:50 AM

All though I havn't recieved it yet, I had pre ordered a Kilauea from a dealer having an early signing event. The dealer called me on Monday or Tuesday to tell me that it was on it's way here and it had allready been signed by Bill prior to the event.

I'll be looking for it Monday (hopefully)

Re: Kilauea Hawaii - 03/08/99 02:29 AM

I just picked up my Kilauea Point Event piece from the event here it Arlington, Texas.

I am very pleased with the piece. Although I, too, favor a less expensive Event piece, I feel that this one is still a bargain at $65.

As usual, the detail on these lighthouses continues to amaze me. The cliff that this lighthouse sits on is very dramatic. This piece is also relatively heavy with the thick base.

I will not be opposed to paying more for an event piece if they continue to be of this size and quality.

I got mine Saturday at a rep event in Seattle. It is very nice.

Re: Kilauea Hawaii - 03/10/99 04:56 AM

I recieved mine on Saturday. A stunningly beautiful creation. The cliffs on Kilauea remind me of those on Point Arena lighthouse sculpture. And...although the seahorse is just a myth there is a curious likeness to be found in the cliffs of Kilauea. The one thing that amazes me is how the prices remain stable even as the detail of the pieces has increased over the years.

I do not have one yet. I got really excited when I saw on the front calander that B.Y was going to be in WA last saturday..could not confirm where or when. Now I read this was a rep event!! Guess I'll have to wait till August. Wish you would give a little more info when you post on your home page

I've been waiting for this one for years! Now I have to wait all the way till Sept! I asked Bill in 95 if he would consider doing Kilauea-it was one of my top choices for HL. I can't stand it-Sept!! It's so close, but so far away!!

It's good to be loyal to your local dealer. But remember, you can call most any dealer that's on Bill's schedule and purchase by mail, too.

Got mine reserved for April 10 at Warsaw, IN. Hey, that's only 2 weeks from now! Won't have to wait much longer.

I got one last night. Very beautiful piece, from the detail of the different colored moss on the cliffs to the bike leaning up against the out building. VERY NICE.

I received my over a week ago. Since there are no events in my state, I mailed ordered mine from a dealer in Fla. having Bill Younger there for the signings. The piece is great-I just wish I could have been there for it.

Re: Kilauea Hawaii - 03/25/99 10:33 PM

My Nancy Younger signed Kilauea arrived today- direct from warm, sunny, Florida to cold, cloudy, Michigan.

I think it is a very nice piece. The suitcases on the piece are a little out of scale, being half the size of the door, but hey, I need something to nit pick. There are lot of nice details: The bicycle, suitcases, clothes, and all the usual rock, vegatation detail. A good effort, but they should go back to the smaller/less expensive event piece next year.

Re: Kilauea Hawaii - 03/25/99 11:16 PM

I agree with Todd. I'd prefer the event piece were smaller, as I've stated elsewhere earlier. Now my Roosevelt Island is getting kind of lonely, waiting for somebody it's own size to play with.

Todd, I used to have a suitcase that big but the catches wore out, had to close it up with duct tape on one trip when it flew open so got rid of it. Maybe it wound up in Hawaii?

I received my piece from Florida signed by Mrs. Younger. A beautiful piece.

Re: Kilauea Hawaii - 03/26/99 01:44 AM

Mine arrived today! [Thanks Sean]

It's a very nice sculpture. No problem for those 'big' suitcases for me. If anything's out of scale it's the bike. Anybody know what the smaller white building is? FSB? Potty?

Best 'rocks' since Point Arena.

Lots of nooks and crannies for the seahorse to hide in. Anybody seen him (or is it her) yet?

I predict it will be a sell out and retire in about 9 months. 0 :>)

Just received my Kilauea, HI today, signed by Nancy. It's a very nice piece. It's about time to order another curio cabinet. This one will have to stay in the box until I find another place to put a curio (might have to rent space soon). I especially like the cliffs and the lantern room with the railing.

St. John,
Found the little sea guy and emailed it to U.S.S.S.A. but hasn't been posted yet. Do you want me to tell you here or is that a NO-NO
P.S. Like the new look here--having the signature closer to your work, that way you don't forget to check it off.

Oh, please don't tell where you met the sea guy at Kilauea. I want my own chance meeting with him! It would ruin it if I read about him here! If I really want to know, I can go to the place where almost all sea creatures are known. But please don't post it here!

Hi John,

Got my Kileau when Bill was in Clearwater Beach, Florida several Saturdays ago. The piece is a great addition to my collection. Haven't looked for the seahorse yet.

Kilauea Point is a GREAT piece. I have no qualms about the larger size compared to Sunken Rock, Edgartown, or Roosevelt Island. If Harbour Lights wants to make all of their event pieces this striking, I'm all for it.

Re: Kilauea Hawaii - 04/03/99 01:52 AM

I got mine in Clearwater, also. It was a nice event right in the harbor. The piece is a great addition to my collection but the smaller event pieces were nice for gifts to people that you wanted to get started with lighthouse collecting.

Re: Kilauea Hawaii - 04/08/99 02:30 AM

I love Kilauea (haven't gotten it yet, but oh well). At least from what I've seen from the pictures. Anyway, I like the smaller event pieces for two reasons.

a. They were cheaper.

b. I could afford them (without having almost no money left in my spending-money savings).

Look at it this way Stephen,

It gives you an extra incentive to study extra hard in school. Forsake Harbour Lights (withdrawal PAINS) while in college. Work hard and advance up the ladder to a high-paying position so you can afford to buy on the secondary market from our (collective) heirs.

Got mine last Saturday. I was very impressed with the piece. No complaints about the size or the price. Personally, I would like to see all future event pieces remain this size.

Re: Kilauea Hawaii - 04/17/99 11:48 PM

Just got back from New London, CT. The signing at the Marvel Shop went well with great participation by collectors. Nancy did a wonderful job signing the new Kilauea HL and all the others folks brought. Gayle, store's owner, was a gracious hostess providing cookies and soft drinks for the crowd. Gayle also has a wonderful HL collection almost as good as Freds but she's missing CH1. Her collection was on display for all to enjoy. Thanks Gayle!!!

I'm very impressed with the Kilauea HL. I'm not surprised that it is such a wonderful piece. All the releases for 1999 have been super. I'll give this one "two thumbs up" like all the other latest releases.

Chatted with Ron Foster and Bruce from Norton, Mass. for a while. It's great to meet some of the other collectors in person. It was great to speak with Nancy again. I look forward to stopping by and seeing her at the Snow Goose in Plymouth, Mass. in May.
