Oak Island arrives - 02/12/04 10:54 PM

My dealer just left me a voice mail that the Oak Island signature series piece came in. Although I probably won't get it I will stop by and look at it when I get a chance.

Picked mine up at the dealer last night along with the five new baloons (for the wife). Haven't had time to play with it yet.

Finally!

Been waiting with great anticipation for this one for some time. Mine will be shipped to me from my dealer in Nags Head.

The long wait was worth it! Oak Island arrived at my doorstep yesterday. I didn't realize until I opened the box that this is part of the Signature Series.

Harbour Lights has done a magnificant job of the Keeper's Quarters that in recent times had become a USCG station. It's made even more realistic by "turning on the lights"!

A little about the building...In 2002, the 11,000 sq. ft. station burnt to the ground in a 30 minute span. At the time, the building housed personel & records. Fortunately no one was hurt, but the building was gone, along with all the records and many personal possessions.

Since then the crew has grown by ten more crew members and the addition of a new 25-foot homeland security response boat.

Ground was broken for a new structure to the tune of $4 Million last April and is scheduled for completion this year.

Sadly, as I thought, my great closeout deals of the last two years took their toll. No new H-L's are to be found in central Alabama! Sure, two of the last to stop carrying H-L had the Sand Is., AL LE last year, one even had a Christmas piece... but the other new pieces are seemingly non-existent. I hate having to mail order everything.

On a positive note, I was able to present my wife with a large lighted all-glass display case at Valentines... for her Harmony Kingdom 'Treasure Jests'. Okay, so it has "J. Hummel" emblazoned on it... at least I got her old case... with "Goebel Crystal" on it! Sadly, it's three dimunitive shelves won't hold many H-L's.

Is there anyone near Atlanta that knows of a decent collection of new H-L's at a retailer there? I really wanted that Oak Island piece...

JOHN, I've found that Parson's in Cumming, GA (just north of Atlanta) always has a good selection of lights. You can call Jane-Carver Dixon there at 770-887-9991. I hope this helps.

Oak Island is a handsome piece, unfortunitely I won't be getting mine until April. Hopefully, I'll be able to pick up my "Mispillion" LE, at the same time!! smile

Went to see the Oak Island piece, when my dealer called to say it was in. The signature sticker was on the box rather than on the bottom of the piece. Is this the way the lighted GLOWS will be now since the sticker can't go over the place for the batteries? Seems that is the way it would have to work, or make the sticker much smaller to fit on the lid to the battery compartment.
