Re: HL566 Shinnecock Lighthouse Close-ups - 10/19/10 11:18 PM

WOW! What can I say.... I have been waiting a long time for this piece and the photos are OUTSTANDING!

First, let me say Thank You to Paul for his great close-up photos! Awesome as always!

I like the variation of the brown paint on the bricks on the house (or is it wooden shingles). I presume it is bricks as the tower was made of bricks...

I really like the new flag design with a "wavy" type banner and an awesome special 20th Anniversary logo! Very nice touch! Hats off to all who made this light come to reality!

Truly a piece worth representing the celebration of Harbour Lights 20th Anniversary!

So when can "Us" collectors start ordering one? I have heard no word as to ordering one from HLs.....

Oh, and by the way, ..... the seahorse is located on the rear of the piece to the right of the lighthouse tower in the rocky area between the pink and light blue bushes. (I think Paul should stop showing pictures of the seahorse as this dampens the excitement of looking for the seahorse when one gets the piece in his or her hands. -Just my two cents)

Sorry, about the seahorse image but when they are obvious like this one; I will continue to shoot them.. I don't show them when they are difficult to find until after someone posts where to find them.

Plus I usually try to shoot them tight enough that you still need to find where they are located.. I will start cropping them tighter if that helps you not find them..

Rick - It's going to be the 2nd Collector's Society Exclusive for the 2oth Anniversay of Harbour Lights that Tony mentioned earlier this year. It's going to be available sometime after the 1st of the year. You have to order it direct from Harbour Lights just like this year's Society Exclusive.

Great pics Paul !!!

Can't wait to add this one to my collection.

Did I miss the thread about it being delayed till next year? I thought it was going to be available to order this month?

This 20th Anniversary logo/seal will be on all of the 2011 Limited Edition replicas, according to Harry.. It is another very nice touch!

I emailed Tony the question of when you could order the HL566 and the following was his response..

Good Wednesday Afternoon!

NOW however delivery is not until January 2011!

Re: HL566 Shinnecock Lighthouse Close-ups - 10/21/10 07:42 PM

Placed my order for one just now. It looks awesome.
My wife and I went to the base to take pictures of the oil house through the fence and got rousted by the local police. They even continued to follow my wife and I for another hour while we were at the beach before they decided we probably were not going to cause trouble. It was quite an experience.

Re: HL566 Shinnecock Lighthouse Close-ups - 10/21/10 07:59 PM

Great that we can order it now, and I guess it will be a nice late Christmas present to myself in January.

Randall, what was the total cost to order it?

Kind of funny that this is a 2011 release. Since it was to mark the 15th CS anniv, which was during the 16th CS year, and delivered in HL's 21st year, but have a 20th Anniv logo on it.

I think I have that straight!!! cool wink laugh

Sounds similar to what happened when the UK Eddystone light came out for the 10th Anniversary.... If I recall correctly...

Re: HL566 Shinnecock Lighthouse Close-ups - 10/23/10 06:41 AM

As far as putting the 20th anniversary logo/seal on the actual anniversary pieces like HL 566 Shinnecock, I think it's fine. However, I feel putting the 20th logo/seal on ALL the 2011 limited pieces should be done only if it appears in a less obvious location and size than the anniversary pieces. Otherwise, the logo/seal may become a distraction to the beauty of the 2011 limited pieces and a form of unwanted advertising in your face. Maybe even a special sticker on the base of the other 2011 limiteds with a colorful logo/seal would be more classy than being put topside.

Re: HL566 Shinnecock Lighthouse Close-ups - 10/23/10 03:54 PM

Sorry, Max, but you and I don't get to vote on whether or where to put the 20th Anniversary logo/seal on the 2011 pieces. If we did, our votes would just cancel each others out anyway.

It will be on all of the 2011 releases and I suspect the location will be the same on all of them; right next to the flag. You just need to think of it as an extension of the flag.

Sue and I both agree with Christopher,

I look on this as a logo/seal of pride from Harry who has been producing these lighthouses for 20 years..

Re: HL566 Shinnecock Lighthouse Close-ups - 10/23/10 08:13 PM

Good point about Harry, Paul. I wouldn't mind at all if Harry as Head Sculptor were recognized in some way on the 2011 pieces. And maybe the Younger's too as founder's. In my opinion, probably on the base again unless something more creative is thought out.

I think the ribbon style new flag design looks very sharp!

In a lighter tone, maybe the 20th anniversary logo/seal could be removable like Harry's Santa and sleigh on Sturgeon Point, MI !

With S/H it came to $99.99, payable when the piece is shipped.

Hmmm. Another piece that can't be purchased from a dealer. Doesn't bode well for dealers. . . .

Those of us who have a steady HL dealer should be allowed to buy this piece from that dealer. Only those who can't find a dealer should be pointed to HL/LHD directly.

I'm not thrilled about paying S&H charges either!

Re: HL566 Shinnecock Lighthouse Close-ups - 10/24/10 08:46 PM

Lighthouse Depot maybe still helping to "save lighthouses, one gift at a time" but what about saving HL dealers??

Well, their latest sale includes about 21 Limited HL at 25-45% off retail and 3 "limited" Collector's Society pieces at 50% off and the notation that you don't have to be a Collector's Society member to purchase them.

Tony, Shinnecock NY is a stunning piece, but I am confused. The first I heard of this piece, it was an 'extra' Society 15th Anniversary offering, and you clearly state that is what it is. But why does the medallion next to the flag in the above pictures have a 20 on it?

Re: HL566 Shinnecock Lighthouse Close-ups - 11/11/10 05:59 AM

15th anniversary of the Collector's Society, 20th anniversary of Harbour Lights.

Good question..... I would assume from looking at the proposed flag for this piece, (see photo above provided by Paul), that it is going to be a numbered piece.

Re: HL566 Shinnecock Lighthouse Close-ups - 11/16/10 04:54 PM

Good Tuesday Morning!

Let me clear up any mis-information.

1.) HL566 Shinnecock NY, yes you cal get your Limited Edition #; please order early and request your #.

2.) The 20th Anniversary Logo is very small - it will not be obnoxious! I felt it was necessary for a collectible to mark its 20th Anniversary and asked Harry to create a logo - he did a GREAT job. Remember, the logo will only be on those replicas introduced and produced in 2011, therefor, the 20th Anniversary mark will be limited!

3.) The decision to take the Harbour Lights Collectors' Society was necessary - we had far too many Society Dealers dropping out and the frustration level of several hundred Collectors is well documented. For the first time, in four years - renewals are up!

4.) The 2011 lines is nearlyall commissioned and Hasrry has out done himself!

I am very excited about Shinnecock, which I ordered the first day it was available. They never come soon enough for me. But ordering directly from Lighthouse Marketing took ALL THE FUN AND PERSONAL SATISFACTION out of the experience for me, as I consider 'my' dealer, ROLAND, as a friend who has my back where it comes to looking out for my best interests as a loyal collector. I hope the 'Society' pieces are the only ones we must go directly to LM for in the future, if indeed there will be a future for us with these lights.

Thanks for the kind words Jane, but truthfully, it's becoming harder and harder to be a Harbour Lights dealer with all that's happening at LD. Although we love the product, it is becoming increasingly difficult to keep our profit margins up to where they should be and justify the inventory we keep on hand. I know Tony and HL have noticed that our HL sales numbers were down significantly last year. Some may blame the economy but it's the fact that we're being forced to shift gears and emphasize other parts of our website. I've said it before and I'll say it again, it appears to me that HL won't be happy until they eliminate all of their dealers and sell exclusively through Lighthouse Depot. As a businessman, I refuse to get caught with my pants down when that happens.

Re: HL566 Shinnecock Lighthouse Close-ups - 02/11/11 09:48 PM

Roland, I have feared for as long as I have been buying Harbour Lights, that they are ruining their own business by yanking the rug from under their dealers. I worked for EARTHCRAFT years ago when the founder/owner did the same thing to his chain of unique gift stores in Southern California Malls, by undercutting his artist/suppliers. I believe that without dealers, Harbour Lights will suffer, and while the prospect of losing me as a collector will not have them shaking in their boots, they should realize that what one person is voicing, many more are quietly thinking. To me, it seems rash to irritate the 'old folks' too much if you are in the collectibles game, as we retirees are the ones with more disposable income (generally speaking)than those still raising families.
It would make me sad to think you got 'caught' in any way, Roland, by being a great dealer for this company. I liked the suggestion someone made that Bill buys the company back and Tony, John, and a few others run it for him.

Whoa there.... I don't think anyone suggested I have anything to do with running Harbour Lights. I think it was Tony and Harry's names that were brought up.

These are moot points, anyway. The company's not for sale so far as we know. Bill would NOT be interested in buying it back, even if it were.

The primary value of the company are in:

1. the quality of its products
2. the network of artists, producers and dealer network
3. The customer base (declining significantly since the peak, but loyal)

The problems:

1. Declining number of dealers
2. Possible declining interests in lighthouses in general
3. All the well-known ones have been made (some more than once)
4. Increasing production costs leading to increasing prices and smaller sizes
5. Aging collector base with shrinking room for displaying new products and
6. The #?%+= economy. Who has "disposable income" anymore?

Harbour Lights is not a 'luxury product' that appeals to the super-rich -- think watches that cost thousands, etc.

I'm so sorry, John! I didn't mean to give you such a turn! The person I misquoted suggested (tongue in cheek) that Tony and HARRY run the company, not you. OOPS! I'll be more careful in the future!

To my list I should have added:
4. Harry Hine & Tony Constantino (probably ranked higher than #4)
and to #2, I should have included the archival and continuing work of Paul Brady on behalf of the company.

Re: HL566 Shinnecock Lighthouse Close-ups - 03/19/11 05:54 PM

I just got my Shinnecock TODAY and it is my new favorite Harbour Light! I've been dreaming of this since 1999. I even had Digger do me a painting from the photos I had found and a color slide from 1947 that a LI Chapter member had from his father-in-law.
Colors are outstanding!
Paul's photos are great but cannot compare to the actual HL! Harry's best work to date and that's really saying something.bow

My Shinnecock was waiting for me yesterday when I arrived home from work. Very nice. This is the first piece I have received that is at a smaller scale, but the detail! I would think it would be somewhat more difficult to maintain the level of detail when going smaller. Excellent job Harry!!!!

Re: HL566 Shinnecock Lighthouse Close-ups - 03/22/11 10:32 PM

My Shinnecock arrived today and it took my breath away! It is small, but it is just as stunning as all Harry's lights. The title 'Artist' doesn't seem quite grand enough to describe his talent, does it?
