First Harbour Lights of 2000 Announced - 12/31/99 07:26 AM

If you've been waitin' and wonderin' what was going to be out in 2000 from Harbour Lights, here's your preview:

www.HarbourLights.com/catalog/2000/

Looks like much fodder for the "Fog Signal Building" and "Latest Models" forums.

Thanks a lot John. I can already see my walet will take another beating this year. But it's a good beating. (LOL)

I can hardly wait for Oak Island and American Shoal.

Re: First Harbour Lights of 2000 Announced - 12/31/99 09:22 AM

Yet another Series has begun. "Gone But Not Forgotten", Cape Henlopen looks great. This is a series that opens new horizons for Harbour Lights. For those States that were beginning to run out of new introductions, collectors now have a new future to look towards. In one of those forums below I believe someone said that there were over 150 lighthouses along the Gulf Coast alone that were destroyed during the Civil War. Wow, Harbour Lights has a never ending list to be filled!!

Thanks St. John for breaking the news to us and what a great year it will be for HL collectors.....

"Gone But Not Forgotten" is wide open...Guess I will have to start second job hunting....

I believe that Bill has to review at least one WOW in that group. I think they're all fantastic. I'll be saving all my nickels, dimes and quarters for all of them.

Re: First Harbour Lights of 2000 Announced - 12/31/99 03:55 PM

These all look great. All east of the Mississippi and all (well, maybe not SOL) headed for spot on my shelves. It's particularing nice to see Cape Henlopen. I remember back in the days of AOL chats suggesting something like the "Gone But Not Forgotten line and Cape Henlopen was at the top of my list of possibilities. Another was Cleveland Harbor. That one looks quite a bit like SE Block Island from the pictures I can find of it.

Lighthouses can live on, even after they're gone. It's a wonderful thing.

Re: First Harbour Lights of 2000 Announced - 12/31/99 04:14 PM

I love the way Henlopen is sculpted precariously overhanging the eroding sand, as it was in real life during it's final days. Creates a nice story to tell friends about, who notice it in the curio.

I agree with you Lamar on the old Cleveland Harbor Light. One of the most beautiful lights (architecturally) ever built in the US. It would occupy front and center in the curio if HL ever produced it in it's full glory.

John, Thanks for the announcement. Can't believe you did it at 12:25AM. The new releases are exciting. I think that I am going to limit myself to five of the first release. I am TRYING to limit myself to the Southeast and Michigan lights. But, I always leave an opening for others that I like, so there may be more. I am extremely please about Haig Point. That picture still hangs in my living room. Can't say how happy I am to see the edition sizes reduced from the 10K mark. Looks like a great year ahead.

Re: First Harbour Lights of 2000 Announced - 12/31/99 05:26 PM

Cape Henlopen looks great from the photo. It's hard to spot on the photo, but this piece shows two people standing under the tower and a third apparently taking their picture on the steep bank.

Here's a closeup:

I believe this makes the third lighthouse ever released that show people - Cape Neddick (boy in the window) and Middle Bay (man in the sailboat), being the others.

I am correcting the Nauset to Neddick since it was I who misspoke to John in a conversation and mentioned Nauset instead of Neddick when we were talking about the people on the new Henlopen release. Therefore I put this thought in John’s brain however innocently.

To add the correction information..........

Some truely wonderful pieces. Looks like my dealer better clear some layaway space sinceI won't be able to afford them all at once. On the timed pieces, will the stores just be able to order them during those windows or will we receive an order form?

Re: First Harbour Lights of 2000 Announced - 12/31/99 05:52 PM

Actually, it's Nubble that has the fellow in the window...It looks like the lightkeeper to me.

Excellent pieces. Glad to see HL testing the "timed release" concept. Guarantees quick retirement. Also glad to see *No* 9,500 or 10,000 edition sizes.

Yes, I 'spect there will be a couple "Wow!™"s among them...particularly Fort Jefferson, which has the same kind of feel as Alcatraz. I can see that one retiring instantly.

Guess we'll have to wait until Fall for the Maine lights.

Nice work, John, on the 2000 catalog. Well done.

Thank you John for a exellent preview of the 2000 Harbour Lights releases. I cant wait to see them in person. They all look like WOW pieces to me. Do you have any idea on the release dates of these? Cape Henlopen looks really neat with the people standing there. Thanks again for the great preview.

Thanks John for the wonderful pics and price list of the 2000 HL intoductions....they all deserve a standing ovation in my opinion. I plan to make sure my dealer gets my orders next week! I agree these pieces are WOW's to the N'th degree!! Cape Henlopen is absolutely FANTASTIC and Fort Jefferson is another SUPER piece. Larry and I still have a few of the '99 pieces to pick up but they may have to wait. I think American Shoal,FL is going retire quickly....hope everyone has their orders in so they can be in the first 3,000 group and get the stamp too.

Looking like a great year 2000 already. These new releases are very exciting, and who could resist a Beany Bill? I still have hope for some Great Lake releases later this year. (Think Whitefish Point)

I have some initial thoughts about the edition sizes and they are positive. Nothing above 10000 is a good step, and I think the Timed Edition sizes are worth trying out. We know those pieces will be retired in less than two years.

Thanks to John for getting us the info so quickly! Paul, did you take the pics? If so, thanks to you too!

Thanks for the great preview John. If you had posted your message about 10 minutes earlier I would have caught it this morning! Guess the dealer and I are going to be even better friends in the coming year. Forget the second job, Derith, may have to go for a second and third!

Guess we'll have to wait 'till mid-year for a special edition Whitefish.

This sure is a great way to start the new year - trying to figure out what to sell to stimulate the old cash flow!

Re: First Harbour Lights of 2000 Announced - 12/31/99 11:34 PM

The photos are from Harbour Lights -- Paul did his usual magnificent job on the scanned photos to make them as sharp and detailed as you see.

Thanks, Paul.

In past years, Harbour Lights has used different backgrounds on different photos. They now appear to be using the same background for all.

I don't have any advance knowledge of other 2000 lighthouses, but those who want a Great Lakes or Pacific Coast lighthouse still have two more chances at it. Additional introductions will coincide with the May and June Expositions.

The new catalog is out and it shows five Pharos Collection lighthouses -- all from Great Britain (England, Ireland, Scotland & Wales). These are primarily for the European market and with dealers being set up in Great Britain first, the first intros match the market. These are interesting lighthouses and have GLOW-like prices (US Dollars). I'll post photos of the lighthouses next week along with scans of the new Brochure.

The brochure is 12 pages and combines information on all the Younger & Associates product lines.

Here's a peek at the cover:

Just returned from a holiday vacation and actually got a chance to view the Forum. Haven't been to this site for a while. Thanks for the look at the new lights. We keep saying we need to cut back since we hope to retire in the next few years, but we can see it's not going to be easy to do that.

>>Actually, it's Nubble that has the fellow in the window...It looks like the lightkeeper to me.<<

Looks like the fellow on Dutch Boy paint cans to me. (vbg)

The new models look great - I'm particularly enamored of Haig Point and its marvy palm.

But it is The Pharos Collection and overseas sales that, imo, brings the most significant news. (Obviously the fruits of BY's photo junket to England - what a great tax write-off!) This will be a fascinating marketing effort to watch unfold and hopefully we will be gaining new forum members and chat participants from the British Isles and elsewhere. (Be nice to these newbies even if they do wear bright red jackets and line up in rows out in the open field. ) Sometimes we forget lightkeeping is a noble tradition that pre-dates our own country. We may gain a wealth of new information and lighthouse lore that could surely 'delight' us. Perhaps even a Euro-vessel for A/B. This could be big, folks - I'm rooting for the success of the Pharos Collection, sight unseen.

I hereby dub the doll Beanie Bill.

Re: First Harbour Lights of 2000 Announced - 01/01/00 04:45 PM

On the Cape Neddick, the little boy is just that.... a little boy. A friend and Harbour Lights dealer from the start of Harbour Lights in 91 actually talked to the artist who sculpted the Cape Neddick lighthouse. The artist, who shall remain nameless, because the dealer wouldn't tell me their name, told the dealer the story behind the little boy in the window. I promised not to tell but maybe I can get the dealer's permission to do it in the form of a question and let someone on the forum come up with the correct reason. The artist was shopping in the dealer's store when this all came up.

Being a newsman, I have since verified the story from a second very reliable source, whose name I can't reveal either. I will ask permission next week to post the question(in the form of a question), while keeping all sources top secret, of course.

Sean, your right about the 150 lighthouses destroyed along the gulf coast. There is a book called 1000 lighthoused destroyed that I found on the net but I don't recall the author and I can't seem to find it again. Maybe someone has seen this book. If anyone knows of it or comes across it maybe they could let us know. 1000 Lighthouses destroyed!!!!! What a shame!

Thanks, John (and Paul) for getting the 2000 releases posted for all to see and salivate over. I'm especially happy to see Fort Jefferson in the mix - it looks just as I'd hoped it would. Even though there is no more display space in my home for these beauties and I'm trying to be very selective on which HLs I buy, I'll probably get all of them anyway and figure out how to display them later (maybe convert part of the kitchen?). And I'm in agreement with some earlier comments concerning the old Cleveland light - what a classic piece of architecture! If/when it's done by HL, it'll be a sure winner.

Re: First Harbour Lights of 2000 Announced - 01/02/00 06:50 PM

I look forward to getting the new releases which you have so kindly shared with us. I especially like the Cape Henlopen with the people standing under the edge of the tower. Was this HL inspired by a real picture from that time? Lady Liberty has got to be one of the most beautiful representations of this stately lady that I have ever seen. Harbour Lights continues to exceed my expectations all the time.

I've now added another LH to my list of ones I've seen. I rode by Haig Point, SC while i was visiting Hilton Head. The boat captain was not sure if it was a real LH or just a house made to look like one. I now know that it was real. I had to go dig out my pictures from my trip after seeing the pictures of the 2000 introductions. I too am going to have to dig deep this year. I like too many of the new ones already. Dennis

you have outdone yourself! Wonderful job on posting the new releases. Paul's pictures are as fantastic as we have come to expect. You guys are great! I can't believe all the time and hard work you put in to get the information to us quickly. Thanks for being so dilegant.

Those of you who don't "Chat" missed a great one last week. Mo from Harbour Lights was on and we all got a preview from John on these and had a lot of questions answered. The best chat I have been on yet.

I like the lower edition sizes, and the gone but not forgotten line. American Shoal, and Fort Jefferson will go fast! better get your orders in ASAP!

It will be hard deciding which to get first. Can't wait to see them all in my curio. Younger and Associates have done their best work yet!

I too am disappoointed that there are no West Coast lights in this group. Are you listening Bill.

or go to each individual new lighthouse page and find the information there.

Size for the Pharos collection is similar to GLOW. 5-6" max height.

US Harbour Lights dealers can place special orders.

The catalog states:

Quote:
Created specifically for our neighbors abroad, This new line will have different packaging and paperwork than Harbour Lights. Please contact your local authorized dealer if you wish to place a special order.

The Pharos Collection is about the same scale as the G.L.O.W.
Will any of the lighthouses in the Pharos Collection be released as Harbour Lights LE International Series at a later time, in a scale true to the LE's?
