Great Lakes GLOWS - 04/12/07 06:23 PM

Chicago Harbor and Wind Point GLOWS arrived at Northeast dealers today. This means that all of the January-announced releases will have arrived at the dealers (West Coast) by next week.

Thanks for the heads up, Jim. How do the pieces look in person?

Excellent! . . . . Of course, I'm the exception that has always liked the light-up GLOWS.

I second Jim's views. I think the GLOWS are great. The give a more detailed version of some of the earlier HL LE's.

My only gripe is I don't like the feet. I prefer the felt bottoms.

GLOWS have their place in the market, eventhough some collectors don't like them.

As for the little feet, I think this is one feature that mostly every collector doesn't like. Looks "Cheesey"....

I received my Chicago Harbor and Wind Point GLOWS this afternon. And they both are fantastic.

I especially like Wind Point becaue I grew up near the lighthouse and saw it almost daily. The pice also has windows which light up, which I also like.

On Friday and/or Saturday nights many of us teenagers would visit the light. A parking lot for the 9 hole golf course was on the cliff overlooking Lake Michigan. From the parking lot we had an unobstructed view of the lighthouse. As teenages we all referred to the location as "The Point." We would go there with our dates to watch the "submarine races."

This doesn't take too much imagination, does it! But in reality, during the war Coastal Watchers were assigned to climb to the top of the lighthouse to watch for German submarines. They never saw any. Neither did the teenagers in the late 50's.

(a) Did you unhitch the horses while watching the submarine races?

(b) Didn't know we were worried about German subs on the GL during the Spanish-American War? (or that the Germans had much of a sub fleet in those years...)

No, Dave, that wasn't a problem The Model T's worked just fine.

Didn't know we were worried about German subs on the GL during the Spanish-American War?

I understand, Dave. But then again, there are very few of us left who remember the Spanish-American War from personal experience.

Boy, am I in trouble now.
