Beckoning Beacons

Today was the Rep Event at The Bronze Lady in Orlando and I stopped in to get my Beconing Beacons 2000 Special Event Exclusive. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it. The photos of it don't do it justice and the price is right, $35.00. I like the gold lettering and the detail on it, except for what appears to be a white park bench. The bench just doesn't look in the correct proportion to the rope mooring the boat. Other than that, I think they did a good job on this piece. If anyone sees the piece, and determines that it's not a park bench, please tell me what you think it appears to be.

No, it's a small white item on the grass in front of the trees. The boat is a little distance away from it and it's just tied to a post.

Joanne is right, the pictures don't do justice. My Beconing Beacon- Rep Event piece arrived yesterday and it looks great.

Blue Felt covers the bottom of this piece just like American Shoal. The lettering on the piece which looks yellow in the photos, is actually gold over the blue background. There are the usual little touches on this piece, I.E. a few boxes, a bench, boat, and an oil tank.

The back side of the piece is flat like a bookend, is white, and has the story of Harbour Lights written on it.

A great looking piece, I think!

FYI Todd, blue felt only covers the bottom of some of the American Shoal Lighthouses. I have already seen one (American Soal) in the 2200 number range with green felt on the bottom. The blue felt on the bottom of the first American Shoals was not a planned Harbour Lights decision according to Bill Younger. Bill said at the Derby Club meeting that the factory rather than wait on a shipment of green felt to arrive, decided to use some blue that they already had on hand. They felt…. that it was more important to not delay the delivery of the American Shoal lighthouses any more than they had been already.

MJ & I received our first Beckoning Beacons and I have to agree that it is a nice piece and the photos were a bit deceiving. Joanne, I think that the rope is actually too thick instead of the bench being too small. The seahorse is green this time, I'm not going to say where it is. I'm sure that you will all agree that this piece is loaded with the detail and workmanship that we have come to expect from Harbour Lights. Another job well done.

I guess I was so excited when I was looking at my new piece, that I left off the k in beckoning. At least I did not leave the e off of beacons. LOL

Don't worry Joanne. I missed it too, but I type fast, never spell check, don't spell very well or phrase sentences very well either. Hopefully people get the jist of my posts anyway.

If I ever get a day off work, maybe I'll try and post some pictures with my digital camera. (I have workd 24 hours, had 12 off, now I am on a 36 hour shift)

I just checked my American Shoal #424 and it has the blue felt on the bottom. I didn't even notice it until I read this thread. You learn something everyday!

Since it's stored at PhotoPoint and not here, Todd, it doesn't take up any more space with us - but might take a few more minutes to load the image. Can you do a larger scan of back side text for us - so it's readable?

Nice closeup Todd. I'm glad to see that you chose to protect the front of the Beckoning Beacons with something soft when you took this shot. It's better than placing them on the table (wood surface) as you had done earlier. I'm sure that you were very careful with the pieces in both shots but sometimes we all need a reminder. Our treasured Harbour Lights will last longer if we remember little things like padding.

What was the story behind the red and blue versions of the original Legacy Light?

The Legacy Light was, I believe, to be a dealer sign promoting the line. It was blue. So many dealers sold theirs to collectors that they released another version in red that was clearly stated to be for dealers only. Of course, many of the red signs have found their way into collectors possession.

Can't decide on this one. I like the lighthouses on the new sign but the wavy banner from the old sign.

You are correct Rock. According to Jim Rutherford's The Harbour Lights Survival Guide, The red was for stores. Stores could recieve only one (later changed to two) Red Legacies. If they were broken, lost or sold, that was it, no more. The Blue Legacy was unlimited and unnumbered.

Does anyone know if the Beckoning Beacons felt is going to stay blue or is the felt eventually going to switch back over to the standard green?
Wasn't the blue felt originally reserved for the Pharos edition.
