Three Glows and Rock of Ages arrive - 02/20/02 03:15 AM

My dealer called this morning and informed me that he has received the following:

#271 Rock of Ages, MI
#401R Cape Hatteras, NC
#437 Kilauea, HI
#439 Highland, MA

I have been looking forward to seeing Rock of Ages since the original Legendary Lighthouse series.

Rock of Ages has arrived on the east coast!

This is a wonderful piece and a definite keeper. Even those people who collect only from their region may want to take a look at this one.

This may seem like an odd thing to remark about, but the flag with the edition number on mine is as clear as I've ever seen on any HL. The flag is so well done it really stands out. Great job, Harbour Lights!

Bob,

You should get paid by Harbour Lights. Can't help but look at all the lights and yes, I sometimes buy from other areas because I like what I see. Such a nice review from you counts big time also. I promise to look at this one and will let you know. Race Rock and now Rock of Ages. My, my, what's this world coming to.

Paul you must have higher connections. I
stopped by Diversions South tonight, and they had absolutely no idea as to when Rock of Ages would be in. The only thing she could tell me was that they never know when to expect them. I'm sticking with my original bet of February 26th. February 26th is also my mother's birthday, so I'll help her celebrate by buying myself Rock of Ages.

I'm still waiting for Monomoy Point! It's a Massachusetts light, why is it taking so long to get here?

You're going to love it when you see it Bert! Monomoy Point is a real keeper. It was a great lead-off HL for the year 2002, and it is from our home state.

New pieces just arrived here in St. Louis.
Rock of Ages is a bargain for its amount of detail, and the new Hatteras GLOW is the most accurate rendition of the tower that Harbour Lights has done.

Rock of Ages arrived today, and it was well worth the wait. Absolutely beautiful piece. Now if only the Legacy would show up.... Oh well, I'm happy for now.

Rock of Ages arrived two days ago and it's a great piece. The Legacy finally showed up the day before that....it was a long wait but worth it.

Rock of Ages is a real keeper. I love the detail of this unique light and it's bigger than I thought it was going to be.

No new pieces here yet. I keep calling my dealer every day and so far no luck! Paul, I might have to drive to Indy to get them!

Re: Three Glows and Rock of Ages arrive - 03/03/02 03:00 AM

Well, the dealer must have been blind!! When I decided to go see what else they had (I was just in the mood to buy stuff) low and behold, front row center... Rock of Ages! How could they miss that one.

While I was standing there saying, "I want that one, and that one, and..." the dealer told me he had a piece in the back room that I might want to put with my collection. He returned shortly with a nice MIB red legacy light that he let me have for $50 since there was no price on it. He said it has been back there forever and he was glad to find someone to take it! I can here him now as he tells the owner "Remember that old HL's sign (as he called it) that's been here forever. Well, I found a sucker to take it off our hands and I talked him into giving me FIFTY BUCKS for that little thing!!"

Nice find there friend but you didn't say how many new HL's you had to buy to get that bargain Digger, lol!

I can't remember what the story is behind these signs. Were they just made for the dealers or were they also available for sale as they have a retail price?

Great find, Digger! Little deals like that is what makes HL shopping (or should I call it hunting) so much fun!

Re: Three Glows and Rock of Ages arrive - 03/03/02 01:30 PM

What I was told years ago was that the LE Blue Legacy light (1994) was sold at retail to collectors. The non-numbered Red Legacy Light (1995) was for dealers only.

Re: Three Glows and Rock of Ages arrive - 03/03/02 05:33 PM

The red letter signs were given to dealers 1 per store. A blue letter version was also made that dealers could sell to collectors.

I recall on one Fall '97 trip through Ohio finding a couple of stores who had the blue letter version marked "NFS" and the red letter sign priced at $35. (Naturally I bought those!)

Just before retirement of these pieces, HL told dealers they could order one red letter sign if they wanted. Not all did.

Here's information on the quantities, dates, etc. for these pieces:

Thanks John. Guess I read that before but forgot. This page, however, lists them at $65 rather than $35.

I think you're right, Mombo -- that seemed awfully low to me too on the catalog page.

Re: Three Glows and Rock of Ages arrive - 03/04/02 06:38 PM

$35!!!!!!! Gee John, then you'd probably sell them for what? $40!!! That's a profit of $5, not bad!! LOL

Re: Three Glows and Rock of Ages arrive - 03/04/02 08:48 PM

Perhaps it would retail for $65 or so and the dealer's cost was $35.
