Calling me, change in area code

Just to let those who contact me by phone know that our area code is changing as of next Wed. 1/16 here in North Central Indiana. The new area code will be (574). They are saying that the old area code (219) will still work for approx. 6 months after the change-over (yeah right).

If any of you other Hoosier's are also effected by this change you might want to post here.

Actually, North Central Indiana remains at AC 765. Digger lives in (or under) Central Northern Indiana (just to confuse the facts, cause trouble and lay claim to my part of the state). Lucky folks across the northern part of the state get to do what we did a few years bac. There will be not one, but two new ACs in the central northern (South Bend) and northeastern (Fort Wayne) areas of the state. Stephen and Mark are the lucky ones and get to keep their AC.

At least this isn't as bad as one of the changes I saw - there is an AC that will cover an area that is not joined together by any physical boundries. (Unless the map I saw it on was not drawn correctly.) You will be able to use either old or new AC for the 6 months, then it will revert to only the new one. Don't forget to take your cell phones in to be re-programmed.

Hey, don't complain. We just got a new "overlay" area code. There are now two area codes in the same area, 847 and 224, which means even if I want to call the house next door, I have to dail the area code, even though it's the same as mine. Go figure

Hey Digger,

We had the big switch here too. went from 520 to 928. I guess the 520 will not work after January 31. I'll be moving around the 1st of march to a different area code 480. Aint that going to confuse the family.

Hey Mike... welcome to the lovely world of two area codes. We did the same last year with two area codes in the city of Charlotte. No matter where I call in the city, I have to dial a ten digit number. Growing pains!
