Judging from the wide range of prices we have seen listed, it sure would be nice to take a peek at the books of some of the greedy ******** who are sticking it to the public to pad their own pockets. . . . .

Saw a station today with $2.65 posted. That's where I bought my pre-Katina gas for $2.61 so we're getting close to that at least....

Filled up at $2.24.9 this morning still going down but at a slower pace..

$2.49 for 87 octane at the two closest stations to my home.

Will we ever see the price go below two bucks ever again?

We're still paying $2.70 a gallon for regular or more.

Anyone thinks gas will ever cost under $2.00 a gallon again, please contact me about a bridge I have for sale.

My dad said he filled up with PREMIUM today for about $2.50. Regular was $2.30. It's definitely not the norm, and it was about .5 hr-45 min away from us, but...wow!

It was $2.22.9 this morning on the way into work..

Paul's station just showed an eastside Indy Marathon station selling gas for 1.96.9 . . . Guess I should have bought that bridge from John.

I just filled up at $2.09.9 yesterday, I guess I should have waited a day and gone to the Eastside of town...I live on the westside of Indy..

Regular is finally at $2.47 a gallon. One of the things that may cause our gas to be higher is the sales tax as someone mentioned earlier. Of course we don't have a state income tax or county tax or city tax. We only have a state sales tax(7 cents average on a dollar) and county property tax so the state has to get their money somehow.

2.399 in Spring hill, FL this afternoon, was 2.599 at the same store this morning.

2.329 here today. Hope it keeps right on falling.

This afternoon the price for regular was down again to $2.40 a gallon. I think I have enough gas to last till Monday. Maybe it will go cheaper. The last fillup on the car was at $3.00 for super. It cost me close to $48.00.

Just made a cross-town trip thought Scottsdale and Phoenix - cheapest gas I saw was 2.599.

A co-worker of mine was in Iowa yesterday and saw regular unleaded at $2.09 and ..... hold on to your hat $1.99 in Des Moines

The 87 octane dropped to $2.27 a gallon at the stations near me. Early in the week the newspapers were saying Exxon-Mobil and a few other are enjoying record profits in the billions of dollars. One news source said their profits were up 30%.

The little guy gets screwed and pays the price. The big oil companies get richer and richer. This is why the prices are dropping. Big oil wants us to think they are doing us a favor. Is being screwed less really a favor when you shouldn't have been screwed at all?

Well last I saw we were at $2.58. This is 3 cents less per gallon than I paid pre-Katrina so it seems that we're at least back to where we were then. But before that hurricane struck we had been inching up for some time. I guess now we will have to see just how low prices will go until they stabilize.

I just hope that costs for home heating will drop accordingly, that the dire predictions for oil and natural gas will not materalize.

I was listening to a fellow economist the other day discussing the issue. According to him, the traditional (normed for inflation) price of gasoline would currently be in the $2.00-2.25 range. This would have paying the same for gas when we paid $0.59 in 1974. The average oil company profit is 10 cents on each gallon, from which those damaged Gulf oil rigs must be repaired/replaced. The average tax on each gallon is 45 cents, federal, state, etc.

For those who favor a windfall profits tax, think - that money will only go to the government, i.e., "the people." The price will not decrease. Perhaps we should press the government ("us") to reduce the tax load. Last week we in Colorado voted to increase our taxes with one reason being better roads. What happen to those billions of gasoline tax dollars?

Another unforseen consequence of good intentions has lately appeared. Access to HOV lanes has been allowed for single riders in hybrid vehicles. HOV lanes are becoming overcrowded. In many cases the 30 mpg hybrid gets less mpg than the small gas only car (Honda Civic) next to it buts gets privileged because of the perception of "doing the right thing."

Consolidate your trips, don't burn a gallon of gas to go to Starbuck's to buy a $5 cup of "coffee" and just remember, by the end of the year we'll be talking about some other big problem.

Well, I sure don't waste gas or time - I make sure I have several errands to run in the same general vicinity. And what about people who drive around and around the parking lot trying to get a space really close to the entrance? Whatever happened to physical fitness?!

Back to prices; I just filled up my Honda (Accord) and we are down to $2.29, folks! I paid $2.23 since it's at my supermarket and I get a discount of six cents if I buy $50 or more in groceries - and who doesn't? BUT, my neighborhood supermarket, like all my HL dealers, is closing. I am having to drive further and further for everything I do. Real bummer!

Cumberland Farms in Plainville was $2.16 for 87 octane today. The news have a story about a station selling 87 octane for $1.04 today. It is surely a publicity stunt but it is a lot of free advertising for their moment in the spotlight.

Hey, that's actually a good idea. A station could actually probably make an equal or greater profit by occasionally dropping their price so drastically. The ensuing publicity means that people are lining up to buy your half-price petrol. Thus, lots of people come, and you make a profit!

If only others did that...

A while ago, I noticed that 87 octane at a Chevron station was 2.45, a Citgo was at 2.39, and a Diamond Shamrock was at 2.31. As I said earlier, mine was 2.29. They are within blocks of each other.

Monday's price was $2.39, Tuesday's $2.34, same station. At that rate we'll be down to $1.29 by Thanksgiving and really have something to be thankful for.

Still higher then most other state but down to $2.35 a gallon yesterday in Ocala, FL.

We are experiencing what I refer to as the "greedy bas**** effect" right now - raise the price 15 to 20 cents mid to late week to shaft those people who buy gas when they get paid. It generally comes down in our area a little at a time over the next several days. While there officially no collusion involved, it almost always starts at a station located near us, and spreads throughout the city within hours.

We went to Indy last night, and found a 20 cent reduction in prices from our house to just north of Indy and then they went back up. Tuesday evening Heather had to go to Bloomington, which takes her around Indy, and just at the exit from I-465 she found gas at 2.05. Interesting how there are pockets where the gas is more reasonably priced - I'm sure they are paying the same wholesale price as the folks 10 miles down the road, and you know they ain't losing money in the deal.

We paid 2.02 in Indy on Saturday, and 2.04 here locally tonite. Thought we finally were catching up until I watched news and it is 1.93 on the south side of Indy.

Still 2.39 here!

87 octane is $2.09 at Sunoco and Gulf. Mobil and Shell are $2.15. Still waiting to see the 87 go below two bucks.

$1.96.9 for regular on the way to work this morning... I know it's only 4 cents less a gallon than I paid a week ago but it seems like so much more not paying over $2 a gallon!!

$2.14 here yesterday. At this rate the price will soon be where it was a year ago ($1.90 average). Somehow those "greedy" oil companies managed to find more oil, crank up those refineries into overdrive, and keep us in gasoline. All the while without getting those Gulf wells and pipelines back in action. Too bad, looked like my 401k was going to get a nice boost on their profits for a while.

Gas War on the southside of Indy - according to the news tonite, $1.77 at a couple of stations. Last night it was $1.81.

We found gas in Starke Florida (SW of Jacksonville FL) for 2.14 a gallon!

the cheapest here is $1.89. The station is about 15 miles from my house though.

87 octane is down to $2.01 at a few area stations. I would suspect we may see a below two buck price in another week, I hope.

Happy Thanksgiving from the oil companies that gouged the heck out of us by raising their gas prices so high for no real reason other than to make more profit.

87 octane is now below the two buck a gallon mark at two stations near me. The price is $1.99. Other stations in the area are priced $2.03-$2.07 for 87. Finally the motoring public is seeing a little relief. I wonder if heating oil will also cost less?

There are several AMOCO(BP) stations in Ocala at $2.11 per gal. The rest of the stations are at $2.15 a gal. It's getting better each week.

Sounds good, guys. I'll be filling up again on Friday - sure hope our prices are under the $2.00 mark.

Made a run to the north side of Indy, and filled up with Shell's preumium for $1.94. Kind of a wacky deal - they had all grades for one price, so duh, I took the best stuff. Poor old van not used to hi test, hope it doesn't overdo it! Of course, I had filled up yesterday (2.00/gal) and didn't need much, but I'm not passing up a deal....

Stan and Margret have to be just hating us at this point . . . .

Oddly enough, my owner's manual for the "Hemi" advises to use 89 octane, and if a higher grade of gas (93 octane) is used make sure you put more than a half a tank in because the vehicle's computer may not be able to properly adjust to the different octane fuel.

Does that make any sense to anybody?

Bob,

Makes a lot of sense. New vehicles have a "knock sensor" to adjust ignition timing. Will work for best effiency (advances spark, hears knock, retards spark) all in milli-seconds. But unless you are using full throttle frequently the gain is not worth the cost.

From what I've heard, you shouldn't put any grade different from what is specified in your car, except in emergencies. i.e., putting premium in Bob's pickup would be just as bad as us putting regular in the Rover. The engines are designed specifically for that grade, and work the best on it.

These days, with the increase in all these ECUs and MFUs in cars, it seems even more important to be careful with your grade. It's something I'll have to look into more...will ask the people on my Land Rover board, who might be able to give some good answers (they live, eat, and breathe this kind of stuff...some even more than me!).

It looks like my niece is paying more for her gas than us. She just moved to Scottsdale last week. She was just promoted to Vice President of the Western Division of Cigna Insurance and relocated to Scottsdale. I talked to her about two hours ago and she said it was a very comfortable 78 degrees.

Two spots within half a mile from home here along the mid-NJ coast at 199.9 ... some name-brand southwestern NJ stations last Tuesday were at 188.9 and GO GAS of Vineland (NJ)was at 187.9
