FSB - Now ready for Y2K

FSB - Now ready for Y2K - 10/30/99 10:40 PM

After a hard days work at the Fog Signal Building, I think Tim and I have the FSB all winterized and prepared for Y2K. We had a few plumping problems to remedy, we spent most of the morning cleaning the gutters, down spouts and raking up all the leaves and don't think Tim and I didn't notice those of you who were going to stop in but saw us working and drove off with out helping. I don't want to name names Bob McKeon or Art Seamen or the person who pulled in the driveway, saw us working and backed out so quickly that you backed over the mail box. By the way as you drove off the post from the mail box tore your rear bumper off, so if anyone knows the owner of a what appears to be the bumper of a 73' Buick Electra 225 with the Ohio license plate HOT ROD please let Tim or I know.
Tim was a little concerned with the upcoming Y2K problems and thought that the FSB should have a backup energy source so after a trip into town to the hardware store we bought some copper tubing and were able to solve the FSB plumbing problems, and we able to get the FSB still up and running again, Tim has ordered a load of corn and will be producing fuel to run the FSB on should the power go out on January 1st, Tim said he should be able to move any excess product locally, but he will take orders from past customers. We also stocked up the old ice shed with Fallstaff and some Schlitz tall boys in case of a shortage caused by Y2K.

I also wanted to congratulate Tim on getting a nice 8 point buck, Tim was kind of modest and didn't want to say anything about bringing down the nice 8 pointer, but I said hey, "don't worry about it" the insurance company will pay to have the FSB Yugo staff car fixed

>>" the insurance company will pay to have the FSB Yugo staff car fixed <<

And make sure they use OEM parts - none a those cheap foreign seconds for the staff car.

By the way, Mark, did that electron microscope ever arrive? There's sleuthin to be done. And whatta we gonna do with all those styrofoam peanuts in the Reliquary?

I would like to place an order for some of your 'corn fuel'. I hope you are willing to take new customers. I will even come for it so you do not have to worry about shipping across state lines.

I know a place that likes to take in styrofoam peanuts and reuse them. I can help with that problem.

Does that mean everyones going on a diet? With all the mashed corn and other liquids in the ice shed may be a liquid diet! Do need to talk about the choice of beverage in the shed though.

Glad to know that the FSB will be able to mudle thru the end of the world as the calendar rolls over. Thanks for all your hard work getting everything done on such a beautiful weekend.

Dave

The corn will be used to make ethanol which is for emergency purposes only - gotta keep those boiler fires going. But I'll admit the ethanol does give the horns a nice deep sound which is richer in harmonics than our standard fuel. The Navy wanted us to go nuclear a few years back, and Mark is certified in a variety of fissionables, but we like the old ways.

I hear we're gonna get a lot of snow this Winter, good to have the extra supplies. Mark - maybe we should think about Leinenkugels in case theres guests.

I found it ! while I was stacking the cases of mash I moved a box marked "packing peanuts" but it seamed to heavy, so I opened it up and there it was !

Final Alert!

Well the new year is quickly approaching and Tim and I have got our final Y2K contingency plans in place. We went down the road to Ben's Butcher, Bait and Liquors to take advantage of his big sale at the end of hunting season, before Ben leaves for Florida for the winter. We stocked up on food with a long shelf life, we got 2 cases of Cheetos, 4 of them tall skinny jars of Slim Jim's, and 7 jumbo bags of pork rinds (all though we couldn't find an expiration date on them Tim did notice a half life of 42 years on em') we picked up a case of Leinenkugels like Tim wanted in case we had company, we also got the last 2 cases of Blatz Amber Bock light - Tim's personal favorite, a 12 pack of Bud shorties, a fifth of Vermouth, 2 snow tires for the Yugo, a sheet of plywood, Tim figured we had better stock on ammo in case there was civil unrest so we picked up a carton of bb's for the bb gun (we had a little trouble buying a larger caliber gun at Ben's gun counter, something about being unstable or some nonsense but I tried to tell them the FSB is built on solid granite - but they just don't seem to get it ) We had an Olympic size pool installed to store water in (with tax money) so we have filled it up with 130,000 gallons of water (Tim and are playing one on one hockey on it currently). Tim insisted that I wait until today to post our final plans for Y2K at FSB because he didn't want to create a panic and cause a run on the stores before we bought our 15 months worth of supplies. And on my advice we decided to exchange all of the FSB's cash for cigarettes, chocolate and nylons as they will be invaluable bartering tools.
So we're all set here and will be down in the bomb shelter (our command center) manning the controls with our neat old military helmets with the big spike on top that we got down at the Army Navy surplus store next to Ben's. And Tim has parked the Yugo in the FSGarage in case of snow

Closing the bulkhead on the bomb shelter,
Mark

Watch you step folks - the rocks are slippery this time of year and neither Mark not I are goin out on the ice to getch ya. Luckily Ben's also had an extra hundred feet of shore line for the Lyle gun. ;->

It was a real bear getting the Cesium and Chinese Water Clocks synchronized, but once we switched over to Linux from the beta copy of Windows 2000 that we had been using for the FSB network, everything fell into place. (Whew) I do wish we'd bought some extra vacumn tubes in case there's a problem with the PDP-11 that we're using to run the hockey scoreboard, but what the hey - hockey is tough game. And yes - for those who are concerned, we did run the water through the giant twin reverse osmosis purifiers Mark installed last summer before we put it in the pool. Two feet below the crystal clear ice - you can count the scales on the walleyes. Yep - tommorrow while we're waiting for the Rose Bowl to start we'll do a little in-door ice-fishing. Don't tell me you're not jealous.

Geez,

The U.S. Government was ready. My place of employment was ready. My telephone company was ready. All my utility companies were ready. My VCR was ready. Of all the things that the Y2K bug could have hit, it had to go and mess with 'my' Forums!

Re: FSB - Now ready for Y2K - 01/04/00 02:52 AM

Actually, Art, the US Governement wasn't ready. Just some unimportant spy satellite that is vital for us to see what every on Earth is doing went down for a few hours. Nothing big.
Can any of you guys believe that the Pentagon actually SAID something about it?! I am!

Kinda makes ya wonder what they're up to since they did admit to losing the satellite for a few hours. Always hate it when they admit to anything.

Any chance the Feds won't know how much I owe in taxes this year? Please respond before Jan 15th!

Yes Mombo, there is a chance. But then, there is also a chance that a pot of water heated to 212°F will solidify into a block of ice, too!
