First Collector Forums Poll - 11/22/00 07:33 AM

Sorry Randy - I liked your thread so much, I used it for the very first Collector Forums poll -- using polling software.

You don't need to be a registered user on the Forums to vote. The voting page will open in a new window.

Vote For Your Favorite Christmas Harbour Lights

You only get one vote - next time you visit that link, you'll see only the results.

John, my chad is hanging!
This is unfair, I can only vote once, no manual recounts - I'm calling my attorney! Yes, that's the ticket? LOL

Don't forget to compare to last year's survey.

Well, "one-person, one-vote" is true only for those who have a permanent connection to the internet such as DSL or Cable. If you use a dial-up connection, your PC is assigned a new IP address each time you sign-on. So you'll have a chance to vote each time you sign off and back on again. (Please no ballot stuffing!).

I guess we will be on the "Honor System".

One question- Will you be bringing us the Election Returns on a regular basis? I was hoping to follow the race on a regular basis.

There may need to be an asterisk next to this poll, considering there are people who may have not received their Hereford Inlet piece yet.

...or at least a recount later in 2001.

But what a great Thanksgiving present: Forum polls! It just keeps getting better.

I screwed something up on the first poll and had to restart it. You can see the results of the first 25 votes if you click on the "Last Poll".

Sorry 'bout that. I'm still learning how to set this up.

I would have never pegged you as being a Florida Dade County election polls worker, John. Was it a dimpled poll or a hanging poll? I know it wasn't a PREGNANT poll!

Breaking News! NBC has declared a winner with 3% of the Forum members voting. Exit polls showed a strong voter turnout from the Wacko's and the Saint's. Newbies are contested the vote saying that they haven't even seen half of the candidates. Film at ten!

Well, I did my civic duty & voted. Now I need to sign off and then re-connect so I can vote again. Remember,

Vote Early, Vote Often

Gotta go, I'm late for my Election Board meeting.

Poor ol Colchester Reef, She looks alot like the Communist party candidates, always on the ballot, but never getting a vote. Kinda sad really.

I sent an absentee ballot!

Well, dimple my chad! Very cool, John. I just sent in my absentee ballot from Biloxi, MS tonight. I hope it gets postmarked on time. I am distressed that Big Bay Point is trailing in the exit polls. I'm going to head on over to Florida tomorrow and start taking names of recounters in case we need 'em.

Re: First Collector Forums Poll - 11/28/00 02:34 PM

Looks like all the votes have been counted (some of us voting several times because it's the only way to see the current results.)

White Shoal MI has declared itself the winner and is asking that all voting cease. Big Bay Point, another rival from MI, is asking for more time to permit some of its fans to have their votes added.

While the webmaster waffles, saying the new technology needs to be shaken out some more, others are calling for a totally new poll.

So, if you've got ideas for a voting poll, please email me: Webmaster@LighthouseKeepers.com?Subject=New_Poll_Idea Ideas are welcome from all -- whether you are registered on these forums or not.

Keep in mind your poll idea must be answerable through multiple choice answers (and not write-in answers).

For questions that are more open-ended, we can accept nominations here in the forums, then create the answer choices based on the nominations. "What is the biggest Harbour Lights 'Story' for the year 2000?" is an example of a question that needs nominations.

I'd prefer your ideas by email rather than posting here. If your poll idea is selected, I'll give you credit for the idea, unless you ask me not to do so.

Re: First Collector Forums Poll - 11/28/00 04:11 PM

Something to consider. Some of us appear to have cast a vote more than once because there's more than one collector in the household.

Re: First Collector Forums Poll - 11/28/00 07:07 PM

Good point Sean. For those who have a dedicated internet connection - broadband, for example, you would not be able to vote twice unless you sign on from another computer.

I checked with the software developer regarding this shortcoming: The only way to see the results is to vote in the poll. If you have a dial-up connection, each time you log on, you get a different IP address so the system doesn't think you have previously voted. Thus you have to vote again to see the current results.

There is no way around this catch 22 - I'll look into some of the other polling software to see if they can do any better.
