Can anyone tell me the Names and HL numbers for the two Thumbnails that Bill passed out at the New Orleans Regional?

One of the thumbnails was last years event thumbnail, Detroit River Light, Michigan.
Not sure what this years event thumbnail is?

If one is indeed a Detroit River thumbnail...
This number is what is shown on the Harbour Lights website...
HL696Th Detroit River MI Event Lighthouse Thumbnail
and how about showing a picture of them? Please!
I love these little thumb nails, but can't get to the events where they are given out. So I'd love to see them!

The other thumbnail is Loon Island, this year's store event piece, complete with the sailboat.. I will add an image when I get home in a couple of days..

Thanks everyone!
That's what I thought but wasn't sure. How about a HL number for Loon Island, would it be HL800Th or something else as they sometimes are?
The pictures would be great Paul, thanks!

Stephanie
The Harbour lights lists the following:
HL800 Loon Island NH $40 Apr 2008 Now Timed
Bob Taylor
HL800 ... isn't that the "big" one? Not a Thumbnail, is it?

I believe the thumbnails are know designated as the regular harbour light number plus a "TH". In the past, the thumbnails had their own unique number.
EX. HL800 Loon Island (Event Piece)
HL800TH Loon Island (Thumbnail)

How many thumbnails have there been? Can anyone produce a list of all of the thumbnails issued to date along with their respective numbers? And, as mentioned earlier, it would be very helpful to have pictures as well.

Earlier Thumbnail Thread The list in this thread just needs to be added to it with the 2006, 2007 and 2008 ones. I think most are pictured in the Collector's Guide and hopefully the rest with be pictured in a supplement.

Will there be any thumbnails available during the NJ Lighthouse Challenge at Hereford Inlet?

Re: Thumbnails - 10/18/08 03:21 AM
There would only be thumbnails available if Harry, Bill or Tony were making an appearance at one of the lights. Don't believe one is scheduled.
Harry brought Detroit River thumbnails to the Great Lakes Lighthouse Festival in Alpena, MI this past weekend. He passed them out to the people in attendance at Saturday's Harbour Lights auction where he talked about the HL pieces as they came up for auction.

Thanks Dave! I was hoping that Harry was going to be there at Hereford Inlet Lighthouse again this year but apparently he was not. Does anyone know where I can get a Detroit River thumbnail if I cannot make it to one of these events? Is there also a HL800TH Loon Island (Thumbnail)?
It doesn't seem that there are any events near me and I'd love to get both to keep my set as up to date as possible.
thanks!

Detroit River was last year's thumbnail. Loon Island is this year's. Only a few events left for this year. Bill's are both on the west coast. I do believe Harry is making one trip to NC.
Dave or Paul- Could you post a photo or link to a photo so I can check to see that my above thumbnail comment is correct or not? Thanks. Max

Detroit River is a small white, stubby tower, black lantern and red roof on the fog signal building. The Loon Island is a taller, slender tower, but the real unique feature(s) are the sailboat and tree. Believe that is a first for a thumbnail.
Not sure why Harry would give away Detroit River thumbs at Alpena, but two thoughts would come to mind: (1) that is what he had on hand (2) makes more sense because of location and proximity of the light.
Thanks for the quick response Dave, as usual. I'm sure all of us waiting on the "What's going on here?" thread wish we could get an answer that fast!
The thumbnails that Harry passed out at the Great Lakes Lighthouse Festival in Alpena, MI on Oct.9-12 were Detroit River. I doubled checked based on your description.
Any idea on number of thumbnails currently produced since 1998? I see by the Glossary on the HL website that it was 2,000 in 1998.
I'm wondering if Loon will be much harder for people to obtain with the very limited events? Any thoughts?

I'm not for sale!
Sorry, I couldn't resist responding!
Seriously, You might be able to get one if you make a HL purchase from the stores/events that Bill or Harry have been at. That's how I got one. Either call or use there website.

Stan,
You crack me up!
Looks like I only need the Loon Island thumbnail as I found the Detroit River that I got last year from Hereford Inlet during the NJ Lighthouse Challenge.
Anyone have an extra?
Thanks!

I was at a signing event with Harry today and all the thumbnails he had was Detroit River which I was previously missing. He said he did not have any more of the Loon Island thumbnails so I am glad I got my hands on one at an earlier event.

Good Tuesday Afternoon!
Harbour Lights has commissioned both a 2009 In store Event Replica as well as 2009 Regional Replica.
There will be limited signings in 2009. It should come as no surprise, Bill wants more time to relax and continue writing!
There will be a 2009 Thumbnail. That said, you can place "the blame" on the short supply of Thumbnails on me! I guard them closely and honestly keep track of who has possession of them. Why? COLLECTIBLE INTEGRITY!
I ordered fewer in 2008 than in 2007 and will do the same in 2009.
The Thumbnails "built", over the past three years, have been for In store signing events only!
As of this writing, between myself, Harry and Bill we have given away 850 Loon Island NH Thumbnails.
That's the thrill of the hunt!

And here I thought you were going to tell us that you would give one of the thumbnails away to each member of the Forums that belonged to the Society.
Hey, it was worth a shot!!!
Hey Rich, maybe HL will start giving CS members a thumbnail as part of the signup/renewal package??? It could even be optional for a few dollars more.

I give up, what is a thumbnail??????

Re: Thumbnails - 11/14/08 03:26 PM
Buddha, I will try to answer your question. I am not an expert on the subject so anyone please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Thumbnails are very tiny lighthouses about the size of a thumbnail. I believe they were introduced in 1997. They are given out as gifts at regionals and in-store signing events. Bill always has a pocket full and Tony and Harry also hand they out at events.
Some of the regionals had 4 to I believe 8 or 9 thumbnails of lighthouses in the area.
They original came in a little velveteen pouch.
I think there is about 28 of them. I still have a couple missing from my collection so I am not sure of the number. If your dealer has an in-store signing event and you order the Regional piece or the Signing piece from them, Sometimes they will include the thumbnail in the box when they send it to you. That is how I got some of mine. I have also bought some from other collectors to try and complete my collection.
I have this Loon Island Thumbnail in front of me and have been trying to take a picture of it but it's so small, I'm getting mostly blur. Photography is not my strong suit. I'll post what I have to my website.
