Event Pieces - How Many?

The first 'Event' piece was Sunken Rock, NY - brought to market in 1996. The counts for the first three event editions have been pretty consistent:

I'm very surprised at the consistent quantities over 3 years. I do not have any information on the number of store events held in each year, but I suspect that since Rep Events started in 1997 (I think), the number of events grows each year.

At $25-$35 each, the 'Event Editions' were kind of like the 'popcorn' of the line. It was affordable to buy 3-4-5, whether for friends, as gifts, or to stash for later profit-taking.

Now comes Kilauea HI for 1999 - $70 each. A beautiful piece, but 2-3 times the cost of the previous issues. Located in Hawaii - a tourist destination, to be sure, but few except us WACKOs would think of a lighthouse sculpture as an appropriate 'remembrance' of their Hawaiian vacation (and not available to purchase in Hawaii except for one day and in one place.)

What does everyone think in terms of how many Kilauea HI will be sold?

Would this number indicate the number of active collectors or society members less multiple purchases?
Is this the reason for HL reducing the production run number of LEs?

My numbers for Amelia and Cockspur 11880 and 13882. What was the total runs on those? These are also the equivalent of $30.

How about the Rose Island Society piece - is 6000 the real number? Port Fermin - 6511? Stonington Harbor - 6956? Sea Girt - #? All in the $70 range.

You would think there are enough events to get to. Especially in this day and age, you can get one by phone, internet or e-mail.

So is the 8000 range the number of hardcore who must see BY or NY and maybe buy an extra piece or two?

I would predict that less than 8700 Kilaueas will be sold via signing and rep events. That number would have increased to over 10,000 if it was available all year on dealer's shelves. I feel the cost of the event piece is fair but some collectors will not agree if they really wanted the smaller $25-$35 event piece. I like it...it's very well done...and it's currently displayed on the top shelf of my curio next to Hillsboro. The last three events pieces are still in their boxes in my cellar. They will join the group on display when my new addition is finished and the third curio arrives.
