Download Factoid #11 Spreadsheet - 01/21/99 06:58 AM

Complimentary Spreadsheet Download!

You are invited to download an MS Excel spreadsheet containing a listing of Limited Edition HL models.

This is same spreadsheet and data used to create the tables in "Factoid #11" in the By The Numbers Forum. This version covers all LE models, not just the top rated pieces. A small Word document is available that describes the formulas used in Factoid #11.

If you use Internet Explorer the file will automatically display inside your browser. You may then view and save to your own disk.If you use Netscape Navigator you'll be prompted to save before the the download starts. If you have a Zip program, choose the zipped files option to minimize download time.

Go to the Download Page

Using these formulas & data as a starting point, I hope folks will share their own ideas and analyses here in the By The Numbers forum.

Re: Download Factoid #11 Spreadsheet - 01/21/99 10:08 PM

Is it possible to get the spreadsheet in a form compatible with Excel 5.0? I don't have the lastest version of Excel. I bet you guessed this was coming, huh Tim? What a bummer.

Re: Download Factoid #11 Spreadsheet - 01/22/99 03:36 AM

Thanks for sharing the fruit of your labors Tim. I plan to use the spreadsheet as a starting point for planning my future purchaces. I did one "what if" today. I added 5, 10, and 20 years to retirements. As expected, the smaller the issue, the higher it climbed. That takes care of the supply. Now if we can just get subjective criteria included in the calculations.

Just for you Lamar Wacko! Check the download page again. There's the version for Excel 5.0/Windows 95.

Re: Download Factoid #11 Spreadsheet - 01/22/99 04:28 AM

Thanks, JC for backwards compatibility. Works with Windows NT as well as 95/98.

Quick notes: If you're using Netscape Navigator, upon D/L the spreadsheet should launch Excel and load. If you don't see the spreadsheet, close the topmost sheet and it should be underneath.

Also, with this method, for some reason the header isn't staying fixed. Easy to correct: Highlight line 2 (click on the leftmost '2') then select 'Freeze Panes' under Excel's 'Window' menu. This'll keep the header in place as you scroll.

Thanks St. John - I needed that. I've studied all the posts concerning this model and I'm planning on following it.

I don't know how to do it. Can somebody help? I did the download thing, I think, but where is it? I can't see it. Don't know much about this puter stuff. Bought a Currituck today though, that was good right?

Thanks, Tim. As said above and before, this type of analysis is useful for all: newbies, wackos, and those who don't aspire to owning all HLs, but who wish to have an intelligent plan to follow for purchases. It's also encouraging for newer collectors to see that not all the "good" ones are gone or out of reach.

I give up! I simply cannot do this. Have been trying for 2 days. Seems to be there but I can't find it. Keep getting the message, "file format is not valid". Could somebody like just send it to me?

Re: Download Factoid #11 Spreadsheet - 01/23/99 08:53 PM

Last night I sent you an e-mail with some tips and just now e-mailed a copy of the Excel 97 version of the spreadsheet. If you don't have Excel 97 but the 95 version instead, you need to choose that from the download page. Good luck!

Re: Download Factoid #11 Spreadsheet - 02/22/99 04:34 AM

The latest edition of the spreadsheet - the one with updated retirement numbers for Wind Point and Round Island, has some errors in it. I caused these when I made the edition size updates.

The errors are: Wind Point has Round Island's edition size, Bald Head has Wind Point's edition size, and Round Island shows 9500.

A corrected version was been sent to JC a few moments ago. If you need one ASAP, send me an e-mail and I'll mail you one.

Mea Culpa,

Re: Download Factoid #11 Spreadsheet - 04/22/03 05:09 AM

thanks for the explanations to the formulae. I calculated some of my information using a different formula and was surprised to see variations in some data and the same information in others. I need to figure out how to get my spreadsheets loaded to this forum.
