1997 Retirements

As most know, 1997 Introductions which had not previously retired were retired as of 12/31/2000. A couple were retired a few days earlier -- all short of the original 9,500 edition limit.

Here are the newly retired lighthouses and their final production counts:

Harbour Lights is still confirming the final counts on Gray's Harbor and Yaquina Bay.

Also note these production counts on some 1999 pieces.

The counts were changed in the cases of the HL519 and HL528 pieces.

I AM SHOCKED ON 2 OF THEM. THAT ONLY 6000 +
ON NAVESINK I THOUGHT IT WOULD OF BEEN MUCH HIGHER. AND THE CHARTER PT FERMAN ONLY A LITTLE OVER 1000. THIS COULD BE A HOT ONE LATER.

Would this information lead a reasonable and prudent person to believe that edition sizes of 6500 pieces is appropriate? Post an edition size of 9500 and they don't sell out in almost three years. Post an edition size of 6500 and people buy them up quicker figuring they may be hard to find in a couple of years.

6,500 is certainly looking like a good number. The deal with the Charter Piece is that you had to be a Charter Member with unbroken membership to get one. It wasn't quite as easy as making Wacko Status here, {tic}. I would guess that quite a number of these made it into dealer's hands. That's how I got mine. I found it at a Hallmark last summer during the Hatteras Event weekend.

Selling 6,548 Navesink lighthouses would be approximately the same thing as Harbour Lights selling more than 13,100 Sanibel lighthouses to their dealers. I would say using those figures that Navesink did very well.

True, from a financial standpoint. Still, as the company's 100th piece, I doubt there was any joy in having to retire the old girl early.

Thanks for the numbers John. I previously noted that Pigeon Point and Nobska had retired 11/27/00. Is this correct?

Correct, Mombo. They retired on 11/27/00 because no more would be ordered, even though the full production run had not been reached.
