WA Lighthouses visited Jan 19 - 01/20/04 11:06 PM

The day was right for a lighthouse adventure--sunny and predicted to be in the mid 50's and I had the day off from work. So decided to spend the day on the Kitsap Peninsula and try to photograph a couple lighthouses I have not had much success in photographing before.

First stop was Hansville and Point No Point Lighthouse; have many photos of this one but always enjoy stopping here and besides it was on the way

Then on to Skunk Bay which is just down the road a few miles, if you know where to look. This one is privately owned and trying to get in touch with the owners these last couple of weeks has been impossible. However, today Lady Luck was on my side and the gates were open. I was able to walk in part way and get a few pictures before I was asked to leave ---

The rhododendrums are just starting to bloom and spring cannot be far behind, we hope . . .

After leaving Skunk Bay, I headed south to Gig Harbor. This lighthouse is another one that is hard to find from land, but with some doing, I managed to locate it. I had not photographed this one before. Again private property is an issue, but there is a public right of way on a narrow strip of beach and it was high tide. So back into town to grab a bite to eat and wait. After about an hour or so, I was able to make the trek out to the end of the spit where the lighthouse is located.

Well, the sun is starting to go down and I have a two hour drive ahead of me so guess I better head for home.

Great pictures and a great way to spend any day. Out Lighthousing! Yes!!! Looks like a Fresnel lens in that picture of Point no Point. Looks like a great day was had and luckily some nice pictures to boot. Especially those hard to get pictures of Private Lighthouses.

Thanks for sharing,

Bert smile

Way to go, Ladybug!!!

I had just about given up getting shots of these two privately owned and operated lighthouses for the Stickers for Washington state!

Glad you had a good day Darlene and thanks a bunch for sharing it with us. Green grass, blue skies and flowers in January sure look a whole lot better than all the white stuff we have out here!!!

Hi Darlene,

Thanks for sharing nice your photos. I'm glad you enjoyed your lighthouse adventure. I hadn't even heard of one of those private lights. Wow! It's hard to believe the rhododendrons are starting to bloom there already!

I'll be coming your way again in June. We have reserved a vacation rental on San Juan Island for a week in June. Unfortunately I waited too long to make the plane reservations. The tickets increased in price about $75 since last Thursday.

One of these years we'll meet.

Thanks for sharing! Your weather is warmer and nicer than here. Rhododendrons are one of my favorite flowers too. Nice breath of spring!
