Need help with Alki Point! - 09/19/06 07:11 AM

My mom decided to foot the bill on plane tickets for me and the kids (poor Matt has to work!) to go and see my sister and family in Seattle from October 17-24. I know Alki Point is only open May - September, and I was not able to see it when I was there in April 2005. Does anyone know who I can contact to get in and photograph this light (Darlene)? Thanks!

know it's not the same thing but you can get some very nice photos from one of the ferries in the area as well as the ship that takes you out to the island that has a recreated native american village.

The name escapes me right now. Esther and I went to it when we were in Seattle in June 2005.

I found it- Tillicum Village. you go right by Alki Point and you can get some nice photos. Of course ypu probably already know this. laugh

E-mail the 'Lighthouse Pixie' wink Derith, Jenifer, she's the person with the little black book of lighthouse contacts.

Coast Guard Auxiliary volunteers do the tours during the summer months. I will email you with a phone number that I have for them. Haven't had any luck arranging special tours of this lighthouse in the past. Good Luck and let me know how you make out.

Thanks, Bob and Darlene - Darlene, got your message. It was also suggested to get in touch with Elinor Dewire, so I fired an email off to her. Will keep you posted. Thanks for the help!

I'm BACCCCK! And do I have photos to share!!! I was contacted by the current resident USCG's wife at Alki Point before I left - she was doing an Internet search and stumbled on my post - not only did I get into the grounds, I got to go in and up to the top, all by myself!!! I will try to get some shots posted this week, but I'm leaving for Florida Thursday afternoon to drive my aunt's car down and fly home so I'll be gone for five days and trying to get things done around here before I leave. I also got some fantastic shots of West Point in Discovery Park (and I did drive down there, but I'll tell that story when I post pix). We also got down to the Columbia River Gorge and Mount Rainier National Park. Incredible weather. Sunny and 60s.
