A Long Trip South - 10/21/03 02:01 AM

Thursday after work I started my long driving weekend by heading south to my sister's place in Baltimore. The next morning it was time to head to VA and NC for some lighthousing.

First up was the Stingray Point Lighthouse Replica in Deltaville, Virginia. As it was a Friday morning not a single person was around so I had the run of the Marina to myself.

Next up was the Roanoke River Lighthouse in Edenton. The drive from VA to Edenton was a sad one. cry All along the way there were way too many reminders of Isabel's visit just 1 month ago. Tons of piles of trees and pieces of homes were piled up along the roadside. Many homes were patched up with tarps on the sides or the roofs. In the town of Edenton right by the lighthouse homes were hit really hard. The homes all around the lighthouse had been flooded and many had walls missing. I am amazed that the lighthouse didn't appear to suffer the damage its neighbors did. The light is still in bad shape I'm just surprised it wasn't worse.

My third stop for the day was in Plymouth, NC to see the newly built Roanoke Marshes Replica.

The Manteo Roanoke Marshes Replica was my next stop. Obviously, I'll have to return once this light has been finished.

From Manteo it was on to the Lighthouse Gallery for the book signing party that evening.

Here is Gary Martin with the birthday cake for the Hatteras Light.
