Microsoft Streets & Trips Pushpins? - 07/09/05 06:18 PM

Does anyone have pushpins for MS Streets & Trips of lighthouses in Michigan? and/or Wisconsin?

I put together a Streets & Trips map with almost all the Upper Peninsula Lights based on Penrose's excellent book. The pushpins include the Penrose # for each lighthouse.

You can download it from here:

Right Click on the link and choose "Save Target As.."

http://www.lighthousekeepers.com/uploads/files/maps/UP_Lighthouses.est

Let me know if that works for you.

I've not been to any of these UP lights, so if you have corrections or tips on viewing some of them, please comment here.

John,

It's hard to say since we went a few years back, and took a trolley tour from Mackinac City to the UP, we only saw 2 (Iriquois and White Fish and it's museum). Iriquois they let you climb, but we didn't as with a trolley load and the others that were there, they only let like 5 or 6(?) people go up at a time. Since no one was standing there to tell you how many had gone up, and I don't like getting half the way up with people filing behind and people trying to come back down (mild claustaphobia frown ) and no one budging, we tried to wait 'til everyone else was more or less through and then go up, but by then, the trolley was rounding people up; so it's good for getting you where you're going in a fairly relaxing manner (except the very lightly padded wood benches you ride on eek ), but you're on their time schedule. Whitefish was more of a relaxed pace (though they were working around it, so I don't know if you could've climbed or not). As for your Round Island (#'s 80 & 85 I believe - hard to see with the push pins/baloons) one is Round Island (to your left when taking the ferry into Mackinac Island) and the one to your right is called Round Island Passage I believe. Of cource there's the one in Mackinac City fairly near the east side base of the bridge.

Oh, and BTW, if you're driving up there and can fit it in, "Taq" Falls is supposedly rather large and pretty up there, but of course this was a couple of hour trip which didn't allow much time to do except what we did.

John, I have tried to download and open it 3 times, I keep getting the same message - An unnamed file has a bad format

FYI - I am using MS Streets & Trips 2002

It opens in S&T 2005 after conversion. So, the guess would be John is using S&T 2003 or 2004. As happens all too often, MS modifies formats so older versions can not open files created by the newer version. (And I can tell you from experience that when it "updated" maps I created in 2004 to the 2005 format it whacked a bunch of the pins and the already laid out trips.)

I think it is 2003. The copyright runs to that year, anyway.
