Florida Reef lights by land - 10/20/10 05:59 AM

I thought some might be interested in how well you can see the Florida Reef lights from land. The answer is not too well, but you can definitely see them. I still have Somberero Key (saw it but missed the place to park) and Sand Key (tomorrow)yet to get pictures of. Great pictures of these lights are in Bob Scroope's post this past March. Hopefully I will get closer than this to some of them, no small planes though. Husband is allergic.

Fowey Rocks

Carysfort Reef

Alligator Reef

American Shoal

Thanks for sharing, Laura. I've wondered about that too. Just curious, what length lens did you use for these shots?

I have a Olympus C-2100 and the only lens you can get for it is a 1.7x Tele Conversion lens. I took tiff pictures and zoomed in as best I could. I am sure that it is possible to get better pictures. I hope to upgrade my camera before the Alaska trip next year.
I could see each reef light with my own eyes well enough to see the shape and be certain of the identification. Not a small feat with my eyes. I had to get a special prescription snorkel mask this evening to go snorkeling at Sand Key tomorrow. I will have close ups of that one! I wish I had time to get closer to Fowey Rocks. but you can't do everything.

I went down to Fort Jefferson in the sea plane by myself. Bob wouldn't go.

Laura, I think the pics are great considering you took them from afar. Great Job !!!

I agree, Laura. You did great. I'm hoping to make a trip down that highway sometime in the next few years.
