Watch Hill, Rhode Island

Watch Hill, Rhode Island - 07/31/01 05:59 PM

After being disappointed in not being able to go to Nags Head (Can you believe the owners wanted to use the house the same week as me????), I scrambled to find a beach vacation and came up with this little gem. I always heard about this area but this was my first visit. I found a room at the historic Watch Hill Inn http://www.watchhillinn.com/ for a midweek - 4day/3night trip.
The beaches were nice (a little seaweedy but good body surfing)[not Long Island white sand beaches.}
Lobster rolls were excellent.
Harbor was beautiful.
Area was old New England Victorian.
20 minutes from Foxwoods(gambling).
Westerly State beach nearby - very touristy.
And yes Virginia there is a Lighthouse looking very much like Beavertail on the end of a peninsula doted with huge awesome Victorian Beach houses. (Even saw a butler on the porch of one in his white jacket.)
No pictures, didn't take my camera but will definitely stop there again soon on my way to Boston.

Is this the Bob Scroope we all know and love? The one with the Long Island Lighthouses Web Site? The one who took his family to Montauk -- with a camera -- each summer?

Or is this some imposter who's broken Bob's password on these forums?

Didn't take your camera?! Isn't that sacrilegious? A picture of that butler would have been neat!

Sounds a great time Bob. Hope you had fun even without the camera.

I hope you found the road to the light easier than I did I drove by it about a half dozen times before I stopped a little old lady jogging and she showed me.I was about 20 feet from it at the time but it was worth it.P.S. I had my camera.Bill O'Brien

What? No camera?! Who are you, and what have you done with my father?
There was definitely no seaweed in Montauk...you should have seen the waves though! I've never seen them that ruff...and no body surfing allowed in them! The lifeguards were riding up and down the entire beach telling people to get out of the water it was so bad.

Bill, have any pictures to show us since Mr. Scroope forgot his camera?

Just finding the road to Watch Hill is tough enough. Lugging a camera all the way out there would have been too much for the old fella.

Cut him a break- everybody deserves a holiday sometime.

Hi Kristin, ...The waves on the south side can be a little rough at times. Last year at Shinnecock they were awesome! Some folks chose not to accept the challenge though. The waves have a tendency to want to take you with them back out to sea.

I'm sure it's a great picture Bill, but somehow I just can't see it! (Must be after effects from that tune-up you had? )
