Twenty-Eleven ??? - 12/09/10 09:03 PM

Anyone got any news on the first batch of 2011 pieces?

Think we'll hear about these before New Years?

Re: Twenty-Eleven ??? - 12/28/10 02:16 PM

I guess no news before the new year starts !!!
Posted By: flacoastie

Re: Twenty-Eleven ??? - 12/28/10 06:22 PM

I think we will hear sometime after the 1st of the year. The dealers probably have the news but can't release it yet.

Re: Twenty-Eleven ??? - 12/28/10 10:03 PM

I always liked it when we got the new release news around the 27th, 28th, or 29th in prior years. I always thought of it as a Christmas present from Harbour Lights.

A little birdie told me the 1st 2011 releases should be released on Monday January 10, 2011..

Re: Twenty-Eleven ??? - 01/04/11 03:13 PM

It doesn't feel like a new year until the new releases have been announced.

Does this mean we will find out what the special, for Alaska cruise, pieces are?

Maybe Pauls birdie could verify this, but a birdie told me (could be the same birdie) an announcement was coming in January of 2011.

Re: Twenty-Eleven ??? - 01/04/11 07:17 PM

Since we won't know the new releases till Monday, got to think that birdie knows it's stuff, I thought I'd take some guesses at what we might see this year.

Might be the year we finally see some of these:

East Coast
Doubling Point - ME
Eastern Point - MA
Miah Maull Shoal - NJ
Jones Point - VA

Gulf Coast/Keys
Alligator Reef - FL
West Rigolets - LA

West Coast
Point Conception - CA
Patos Island - WA

Great Lakes
South Fox Island - MI
Duluth Harbor South Breakwater Outer - MN
Oswego West Piehead - NY
Fairport Harbor - West Breakwater - OH

Alaskian Coast
Sentinel Island
Cape St. Elias
Cape Decision

These are just guesses, I have no inside info. Well maybe a little! whistling
Posted By: wyattd01

Re: Twenty-Eleven ??? - 01/04/11 10:03 PM

Could South Fox Island, MI possibly be one of the few with 2 lighttowers on the same base or could it be one that is sold as a pair?

If this is one that's announced on Monday then I got one from my wish list!!!

Re: Twenty-Eleven ??? - 01/04/11 11:06 PM

In 2011 expecting 12 LEs, 1 AB, + Christmas and Society.

The Cruise/Reunion pieces may or may not be in that count; I wouldn't expect to know what those are next Monday. Probably before the event so those attending can decide whether to buy.

Expect downsized pieces and upsized prices. It's the economy, folks.

MAYBE a Limited Little Light or 2 in 2011 IF the organizations move ahead with plans.

Re: Twenty-Eleven ??? - 01/07/11 03:27 PM

I am still looking for the right word to describe the latest set of Harbour Light releases (Winter 2011)......

I will say that my favorite of the bunch is the Saddleback Ledge, Maine! Nice to have another edition to the Maine lights... always a welcome!

Looks like I won't need to use my credit card too much this year.... Perhaps the June releases will interest me more.

I look forward to Paul's detailed photographs of each piece to strike up some excitement.

Re: Twenty-Eleven ??? - 01/07/11 03:44 PM

I agree with Christopher with regard to Saddleback Ledge; based on website pictures this looks like a great piece. They are good looking as usual, Saddleback just really struck me as a Must Have.

Looking forward to Paul's closeups as well.

Re: Twenty-Eleven ??? - 01/07/11 05:10 PM

I guess I better get busy for Melody and Christopher.. Stannard Rock, MI and Saddleback Ledge ME are both very, very well done!! I called Harry up as soon as I opened the box and saw the quality of the Stannard Rock Lighthouse..

Re: Twenty-Eleven ??? - 01/07/11 06:26 PM

Wow, looks like I've got to save my pennies! Stannards Rock, Vermillion and Chicago, all must haves for me!

Re: Twenty-Eleven ??? - 01/07/11 09:36 PM

This go around will be a blessing for my credit card as all I will be buying will be Alligator Reef. I was hoping for one or two more. Still no Jones Point yet for this round at least.

Re: Twenty-Eleven ??? - 01/07/11 11:12 PM

Interesting how collectors are mostly regional buyers now.

I can't wait for another Jersey lighthouse, I'll be a kid in a candy shop when that happens(hopefully again).

But for now I'll still buy them all.

Once again, all the new lights are great! I don't collect the ABs, but it looks good too! AND we can get THESE lights from our favorite DEALER, rah!
I have ordered all of them, but my first pick Looks Like it will be the Saddleback Ledge, light. Hard to wait, once they come out!

I keep hoping for a replica. Maybe someday.

Since the current Tinicum lighthouse was once part of a front/rear range set. The original front range in now gone. It would make a great Collector Society set.

Tinicum Front Range

Tinicum Rear Range (then)

Tinicum Rear Range (now)

Not a problem! I love lost lighthouses. Let's hope HL shows us an LE replica.

As for the latest releases:
Looks like March before we'll see any of the new releases, even Shinnecock Bay.

Re: Twenty-Eleven ??? - 03/23/11 05:35 PM

1st) I heard a rumor that I was to get a special lighthouse in a Gorton's Fisherman Box later this summer when the 2011 Summer release are out.....

Mums the word.....

2nd) That the 2011 pieces will have a smaller footprint and be a little pricey!

3rd) Of course it is ONLY a rumor, but is Harry working on my Winter Harbor lighthouse piece (?)
Posted By: Lighthouse Loon

Re: Twenty-Eleven ??? - 03/23/11 06:44 PM

CAVR, Thanks for the response, at least I now know I'm not dead!

#1 - I have no clue as to what you talking about, but I may go to the supermarket and checkout the Gorton's fish selection. I was going to do this anyway for Lent.

#2 - old news, just pisses off us collectors until we either quit or shop for them on Ebay.

#3 - I'm all for a Winter Harbor release, but since we already had a Maine release this year, 2012 will have to do!
Posted By: Angels Gate

Re: Twenty-Eleven ??? - 03/23/11 07:33 PM

Loon, You certainly speak for me, too! Yet, I am too impatient, and too much of a true COLLECTOR, not to mention loyalty and appreciation to my dealer, to pick up the new releases a few months down the road on eBAY at a discount price! I am caught; hook, line and sinker, and there seems to be no cure! (But HL REALLY IS working on one!)

Re: Twenty-Eleven ??? - 03/24/11 11:31 PM

Let's see. If all the lines shrink at the same rate, and maintain a size relationship to one another, will the LLOMs become ... thumbnails?

Re: Twenty-Eleven ??? - 03/25/11 04:33 AM

Kind of like grocery items, Rick. Remember when a can of coffee was a pound - a can of veggies was 16 oz - a bottle of shampoo was also 16 oz - a bar of soap was...well whatever size. It sure had a larger "footprint". Didn't look like it was half used when you opened the package up.

We'll I made it to the local supermarket for some Gorton's fish fillets for tonights Lent meal. Didn't help sort out CAVR's riddle/clue.

tongue But prior to that I check their website and narrowed it down to these lighthouses: Cape Ann(Thatcher Island), Ten Pound Island, Dog Bar Breakwater, Eastern Point, and Straitsmouth Island.

I think it's a good bet that it's one of these. I guess we'll know for sure in a few months.

Oh and of course that Gortons packages have a smaller footprint, but with a increased cost!!! frustrated

I have displayed some of the new LE's behind book page magnifiers so I don't accidentally wipe them off the shelf with the dust. It has the added benefit of being able to identify the light from more than six inches away!

Re: Twenty-Eleven ??? - 04/02/11 06:51 AM

Well, since someone else has actually noticed and commented,I also have a comment regarding size of the LEs. since I am from the West Coast I've made it a point to try and collect all West Coast lighthouses. So, maybe it's just me, but I have actually visited Pt. Vicente, CA lighthouse, so was so excited when the LE of Pt. Vicente was released. I ordered it immediately and my first impression was 'it's so small'. It just looked so different to me than when I got the first glance at it in real life. In real life, it is in such a gorgeous setting, somehow my imagination said the HL replica would look majestic. I love it anyhow.

Re: Twenty-Eleven ??? - 04/02/11 07:06 PM

Point Vicente is one of my favorite lights to visit here in Southern California. The setting takes one's breath away, and is one that offers a tantalizing glimpse from afar. In fact, it is so compelling, it is difficult to remember while taking photos, that the ground is very unstable where you WANT to get the shot from! My sister and I never pass up Pt. Vicente when we are anywhere near it. I also love the HL replica, and was not let down by it, but maybe that is because I have been to the light so many times that it has become real, tho not less dramatic or beautiful! I think Vicente is the absolute epitome of the whole romantic notion of the guiding beacon piercing the blackness of the night to guide sailors through dangerous waters. In short, it is the PERFECT light, in the PERFECT setting. THAT is a hard act to follow, even for Harbour Lights!
Posted By: lgthouselady

Re: Twenty-Eleven ??? - 04/07/11 11:12 PM

thank you for your wonderful post, Angels Gate. I have only had the privilege of seeing it once, and like you said the setting takes your breath away. Maybe when I have been able to see it several times, it will be able to really become real to me also, and then I can let the replica, just be the replica. I think seeing it the first time and its setting made it like bigger than life to me. So,Inow look forward to seeing it again.

Re: Twenty-Eleven ??? - 04/08/11 05:55 AM

I hope you get to see it again soon, Kathleen. The great part for me and my sister is that while Pt. Vicente is very real, it hasn't lost ANY of its charm or high seas romance. I will be visiting it again soon, as my fiance hasn't seen it yet. At that time, we will also visit Angel's Gate (L.A. Harbor) and Point Fermin Lighthouse, which are all close together. In fact, I take pictures of Angel's Gate from Fermin.
Posted By: lgthouselady

Re: Twenty-Eleven ??? - 04/08/11 08:07 AM

Thanks for your encouraging words. I love Arizona and that's why we moved here, however, I am able to be relaxed and enjoy it here because If I need to see the ocean, it's a half-day drive away.So I hope to see it again soon. Yes, we stood at Pt. Fermin and could see Angel's Gate, but I didn't know you could actually visit Angel's Gate. What I hear you say is that seeing things you love only makes seeing them again better and better. So, do you ever go to San Diego? I love that drive down to see Pt Loma.
Posted By: Angels Gate

Re: Twenty-Eleven ??? - 04/08/11 05:53 PM

Kathleen, You CAN get out to Angel's gate, IF you are a little crazy, and quite athletic. I did it a few years ago, but the breakwater is nearly two miles long (one way) and in many places, broken and dangerous. I really didn't know it was so bad until it was too late. Anyway, you can't get in at all, and seeing the lights is supposed to be fun, not dangerous! A good zoom lens will do the trick, and a harbor cruise takes you right by it. The San Diego lights are amazing, but I get up north more often.

Re: Twenty-Eleven ??? - 04/08/11 06:21 PM

As "Angels Gate" recommended... to see Angel's Gate, take the harbor tour out of Long Beach. Tell them you want to get close to the lighthouse.

Re: Twenty-Eleven ??? - 04/08/11 08:31 PM

OH! A boat trip out of Long Beach, with a good zoom lens. Thanks so much for the idea. It will be a "to do" next time over there. I have pictures that were my mother's and stories of her and her friends going to Long Beach to enjoy the beach. These would have been pictures from 1928 and 1929. and when I lived in Los Angeles before I was 10 yrs old, we and our friends would go to Long Beach. It's nice to have good memories, especially of something that you can still enjoy today.Kathleen

When the Summer 2011 new releases are announced in a few weeks it will be interesting to see how they are numbered.

There has been a couple discussions over the last few years of what Harbour Lights will do for limited editions numbering past HL399.

Since Saddleback Ledge of the Winter 2011 releases was numbered HL397, and we can expect maybe six Summer LE releases, I guess we are about to find out.

Should be interesting !!!
