Event Piece 2004

This was posted on the Lighthousenuts Yahoo list earlier today.

I can't speak for it's correctness, but it has the two Regioanal Pieces correct. Has anybody gotten such information from anyone in a position to know?

"The In Store Event piece in 2004 will be Three Sisters Towers MA
(Bill has 3 daughters); Regional Event pieces will be Lighthsip
Relief CA and St Augustine Light Station."

Wow, Dennis! That's a great rumor for us folks up here in Massachusetts. If the rumor is correct, it will be interesting to see how it is done.

Will all three towers be on one base? I wonder how big, referring to scale, the towers will be. Will they be the size of a LLOM? Will they be more the size of the Brant Point Light?

Inquiring minds on the East Coast, where it's 50 degrees and we are expecting torrential rains later tonight, and we are the home of the "Three Sisters" here in Massachusetts, would like to know.

Dennis & Bob, it was posted by my dealer, Lighthouse Gallery in Nags Head NC from the notice she received from Harbour Lights...so I would say...it's not a rumor.

The Three Sisters is one that I asked Kim about way back in '99 when I was trying to decide which lighthouse to choose for winning the contest. * At that time she said, "No way!" But I wanted the lights depicted at their original location plus the keeper's house. Doubt that we'll get the house and who know's which version of the lights we'll get. If the current lights are made I sure hope that they all have lantern rooms. I'd also prefer that they were all on the same footprint, lined up as they should be.

DO you or anyone else on the forums have a picture of the three sisters with the keepers house. I'd love to see what that looked like. I can't seem to find one on the internet.

Needless to say that this is one that will definitely be bought.

I've admired the Three Sisters for many years. I remember the frustration I felt when I saw the photos of the decaying towers---propped up by wooden beams, lantern room windows broken---in Wally Welch's book The Lighthouses of Massachusetts. Visiting them post-restoration was a beautiful thing. Very inspiring.

I guess this would be the first in a new series: "Not Forgotten But Partially Gone," given that two lantern rooms are up in Lighthouse Heaven.

I have to think that Harbour Lights will resist a piece with a footprint the size of, say, Navesink. But in order to have the towers placed in any kind of true perspective, they'll likely have to make them fairly small (like, say, the Sunken Rock event piece from 1995). If that's the case, it wouldn't fit in with the regular limited editions.

It will be very interesting to see how the creative elves at Y&A solve this dilemma.

They could be done in their current state. They are closer together now than they originally were so you could have the towers be made bigger without creating a huge sculpture. The downside is that 2 of them are decapitated, although the middle sister still has her lantern room so the piece will have symmetry. What I don't want to see is 3 separate sculptures.

I don't think that the footprint would have to be as large as Navasink. HL has made lots of HL's where they have "moved" parts of the lightstation closer together. As long as the lighthouses are in line with some space between them it would work ok.

How about three separate pieces. They could be snapped together or displayed separately.
Landscape pieces could be offered that could snap in between them.
For those that want the Navesink affect could purchase a very limited keepers house that could snap into the landscape.
The keeper’s house could be a very limited production of 1000. This would make it very attractive to the collector and lock it in for the certain sellable amount.

This would be designed for everybody

Sorry Daniel, I'd prefer not to have a LEGO piece. Actually if you have a Nauset LE or Glow you already have the keeper's house!

And we really don't want this, as an event piece, to be too high priced.

I was thinking earlier that if HL makes the towers as they currently are and they continue to give away a portion of the piece at signing events in gold, it would be the center tower, the one with the lantern room. Check the size of the smaller of the 2 St. Clair Channel Lights. 3 of them would fit on a not too large footprint.

However if this is the case and the main piece only has a lantern room on one of the "sisters" I probably won't buy it.

So far in the poll, 56% of voters would like the "Bigger is Better" version. That surprises me.

I think you need the total layout.

We poke fun of Navesink. But it had to be that big to get it right. What Harbour lights did wrong with Navesink is that they should have lowered the production number. Bigger but sell less of them.

I think Daniel's idea of separate pieces is a good one. Buy it all if you want or buy any part of it. If you have the room to display all of it great! If this doesn't agree with you then buy one or more to your liking. Each piece need to have a reasonable price so when the each piece goes together you don't have a $240 puzzle like Navesink. A lower edition size would also be nice but only serialize one piece and have the other pieces as an add on bought directly from HL like the adapters for the lighted pieces. This will allow HL to control their own inventory and only buy the accessory pieces as their stock get low.

This sounds great, probably won't work and this is why I'm still working and not independently wealthly.

My idea is that each component should be its own piece, sold in a set priced like the regular LLOMS. The buildings could be on a slightly-larger-than-LLOM scale. Then, they fit in with the tower height of a regular HL more or less. (They ARE small towers!). You may then arrange as you wish-either smushed together in your curio, or spread out across the house at a life-scale distance. Up to you.

Another idea is to have the set include both the individual pieces and a same-scale base for them, sold either with the set or seperately. This base could have indentations for each building.

Just some ideas...

It doesn’t make sense to me for harbour lights to make one lighthouse and sell it three times because there are three of them in real live. I suppose they would do some painting differences between them. I would only buy one and one week put it in the curio cabinet in the den and call it lighthouse no. 1. The next week I would move it to the living room and call it lighthouse no. 2. Then on the third week I would move to the dinning room and call it Lighthouse no. 3.
Do you all get my point If Harbour Lights make three of them they somehow must make them special in there own way for me to buy the same thing tree times. That is why I support the Navesink affect (All three lighthouses with the keepers house) or my plug together idea.

Seems like the consensus so far is to have the three towers on one base...with some breathing room between them, even if it means a) making them smaller on a conventional-size base, or b) making them "regular" size but on a larger-than-average base.

Of course, the sculpture is already finalized and likely being produced in China now. If someone will kick in for my airfare and accommodations, I'll investigate and bring back some secret photos. "Shoe Leather Harnsberger," that's what they call me...

I wonder if this will be the special HL#400 piece that I asked about a few months ago in another thread. Seems to me I thought it would be neat if the #400 was the 3 sisters. I hope this is a true rumor!! I too would like to see it all on one big base.

It's already been stated that the INFORMATION was provided by a dealer who was sent the information by Harbour Lights.

Seems to me that means exactly what it says... the in-store event piece for 2004 will be Three Sisters. Also, as much as we all have these neat ideas of what it should look like, I expect that decision has already been made.

Here we get a pretty much confirmed rumor and we're literally tearing the piece to bits before it's even been announced or previewed to us officially by HL. Guess we just needed something new to discuss/debate.

Despite all the joking around in this thread, the fact the "Three Sisters of Nauset (TSON)" is being made is great news, especially for us collectors in the New England area.

Before I got into Harbour Lights, many moons ago, I never knew the Three Sisters even existed. Now a replica of them will become part of my collection. The TSON are not gone but have been forgotten by many. They are located in a field not far from Nauset Light, but not near the water at all. If it wasn't for the Nauset Light, the TSON probably wouldn't get many visitors.

Like all of you, I will be anxious to see how the TSON will be presented by HL. I also figure this may open the door for some other partially-forgotten-about Cape Cod Lights like Wings Neck and Sandy Neck. AND, how about the better known Race Point? This piece is long over due.

I bet Chris and Maria down at Collector's World in Eastham are thrilled. They have a wonderful store and probably have the largest selection of current and retired HL's in the New England area. They sell for retail so if you are missing a piece, check with them.
