2010-2011 Collector Society pieces ??? - 03/20/10 05:09 PM

Getting close to the time we hear what new CS pieces are going to be.

Last years "Chops" might have been the best ever. I wonder if this years could top them???

For those not familiar with our 'desert' faux lighthouses over on Lake Havasu.

They go with the 'real' London Bridge.

Can you give us a little more of this clue?

I hope it's a real, active or once-active, lighthouse!

For instance, Washington's one.

Oh trust me the light is still active! I swore that I wouldn't give too much of a clue.....

Lets just say that I am pretty happy with where it is located, geographically speaking.

My husband calls those tall steel structures with a flashing light on top that you see along the highways here in Arizona, desert lighthouses. We laugh. They are tall and they do flash and you can see them a long way away.

But I would vote for Point Wilson in Washington State as one I would like to see as a new Harbor Lights item.

Maybe since last year was the 15 year for the Collector Society, HL will make a third CS piece in honor of this milestone?

Re: 2010-2011 Collector Society pieces ??? - 04/04/10 12:15 AM

Just received a postcard reminding me that it was last chance for the 2009/2010 Collectors Society. On the card was last years pieces plus the society pin. Now the pin was the interesting part as it was the new 2010/2011 pin. It made it pretty clear as to what the Society Piece will be. I believe it has been mentioned in the form here already.

My guess is Great Duck Island !!!

Although Mount Desert Rock Light or Winter Harbor would be just "ducky" too !!!

Sorry no stones, just plain rocks. And no ducks, well I hope not! I think Whales and Seals are more common to the area... Actually, come to think of it, I am not sure there is much of wildlife. Few birds maybe.... and lots of BIG WAVES, especially during the Winter!

I think if you were "crazy" enough to kayak there, it would be considered a "milestone" and you may be called a little "Ducky" by the locals.

Mt. Desert Rock, Maine

I am not crazy about the old version (looks similar to a "big-cage" lantern room), but the existing version is awesome! Glad that it has "officially" been announced! I couldn't hold my breath any longer.....

HL563 $39 Old Mt. Desert (Membership Exclusive)
HL564 $85 Mt. Desert (Society Redemption)
HL565 $124 2010-2011 Membership & Redemption Specials (Both Pieces)

Of particular interests is the following statement on LHD website under item HL563, "In September, Harbour Lights will present a very special 15th Anniversary replica exclusively for current Society Members."

The Legacy will be out soon and when it is released I will post closeup images of both. Cavr, I love the old version and so does Sue. Because she is married to me gets a sneak peek of all the new releases.. She is sworn to secrecy just like me..

You are correct about the current version, it is awesome!!

Re: 2010-2011 Collector Society pieces ??? - 04/27/10 08:07 PM

Now the big question is:

For those of us who want to renew our CS membership, do we call the Harbour Lights phone number or the Lighthouse Depot phone number ???
Posted By: Don Hamburg

Re: 2010-2011 Collector Society pieces ??? - 04/27/10 08:40 PM

I called Lighthouse Depot this morning and they are ready to take renewals. I asked about my autoship number and was told if you have a autoship number you will receive that number.

Re: 2010-2011 Collector Society pieces ??? - 04/27/10 09:10 PM

That is a good question can you call Harbour lights direct and order or do you have to use LD. With LD if you do not order the bundle part you have to pay postage.
Posted By: WackoPaul

Re: 2010-2011 Collector Society pieces ??? - 04/27/10 10:00 PM

Tony said Depot is forwarding information to Harbour Lights since they are owned by the same company..

This is in the Special Legacy which is coming out shortly..

You can call Harbour Lights directly..

Since this is the 1st time they aren't using redemption forms it will be a learning process for them, also..

The free shipping is the same either way, if you order them together at the same time..

Re: 2010-2011 Collector Society pieces ??? - 04/27/10 11:17 PM

I called HL directly and ordered both pieces to get the free shipping. Rhonda took my order smoothly!

Expecting to ship them in June.

I am fine with all of this, except the statement "learning process for them". Now that scares me! I am not saying there won't be any hiccups, but to be safe, I highly recommend calling Harbour Lights DIRECTLY and not go through LHD (even if they are owned by the same parent company). Eliminate any possible hiccups that you may have possible control of.

No hiccups when I called HL directly to renew.

It would be helpful to have your CS membership number ready, which I did.

Smooth and professional, whole process took a few minutes. bow

Both pieces look SWEET!
BUT,I may have missed something:
HL #563 Old Mt. Desert $39(ie membership)
HL #564 Mt. Desert $85(Society Piece)
TOTAL $124.00
HL# 565 Membership + Both pieces $129.00
QUESTION: What is the $5.00 difference for???

Rick, The LHD website has the set for $124.00 with free shipping. Should be the same if directly from HL. Who told you 129.00?

Re: 2010-2011 Collector Society pieces ??? - 04/28/10 07:31 PM

Good Wednesday Morning!

I want to point out an error in a previous post: "auto ship" reserved edition numbers are not always the same "Reserved" edition number in the Harbour Lights Collectors' Society.

The Collectors' Society is NOT an "auto-ship"; please do not confuse the two!

If you are a member of the Harbour Lights Collectors' Society and have been receiving a "reserved" edition number under the new 'one stop" shopping initiative, you can receive that reserved edition number. Please be sure you indicate the number(s) you receive. Please note we can verify 'reserved" numbers if necessary.

Call me 800.365.1219 with questions.

Harbour Lights just emailed out the link to get the PDF of the Special Legacy concerning the Society Lighthouses..

Tony said I could post a link in the Forums where you would be able to read the Legacy as he would like this to reach everybody whether they are now a member or not of the Society currently..

Special Legacy

This is the high resolution copy if you have a problem just email me and I can send you the low resolution copy..

Paul, Your collage on the front of the "Special Edition" is absolutely breathtaking. I would really like to have this in a large poster suitable for framing! Something that HL could possibly use as a promotional item with the "exclusive lighthouse" coming in September? Or any tie-in to promote HL? Could there be time to get this done at a reasonable cost? Just an idea for thought...

Hope this change to ordering directly from LH Depot and not through one's dealer as has been the procedure doesn't mean that they're cutting out the dealers entirely. If that proves to be the case, color me "gone" from collecting Harbour Lights.

Sandy - I think those Collector Society Orders are placed with Harbour Lights directly, not Lighthouse Depot (I know, not much difference; but they are different corporate entities.)

John,

Understand they are different corporate entities, but that doesn't fully explain why they're finding the need to offer them on a direct line basis instead of through the dealers as has been the case. I was born at night, but not last night. . . .

Sandy - MONEY!!!! Harbour Lights will not only get their portion of the sales plus now they will get the dealer's share.

Re: 2010-2011 Collector Society pieces ??? - 05/02/10 03:21 AM

Also there were very few redemption dealers left and it was this way or probably no more Society!!

Re: 2010-2011 Collector Society pieces ??? - 05/02/10 05:55 AM

And loyalty on both the part of those dealers that do remain and on the part of those collectors who don't want to see the remaining dealers cut out completely isn't part of the equation? There should have been a way to cover those "very few redemption dealers" in addition to selling the pieces out of the Maine warehouse. Somewhere along the line we've given ethics the short end of the stick--and, sad to say, that stick is going to be turned against each one of us.

I agree with Rich, it is all about the money. Harbour Lights gets all of the money and does not have to discount the piece to the dealers. They could of offered to go through dealers and direct, for those who had no special dealer, but decided not to.

Re: 2010-2011 Collector Society pieces ??? - 05/02/10 11:13 PM

I agree with Sandy and Rich. First the regional reps were eliminated, next the few remaining loyal dealers and then the end of Harbour Lights. Many of us got involved because of the Younger "family philosophy." I know it was very unusual in the business world but it worked for me. The Youngers, my field rep and dealer were like family and that was one of the reasons for my loyalty. It was fun while it lasted.

Swarovski Crystal Collectors Society Memberships and Annual Editions may be redeemed with Customer Service Dept. (in Rhode Island) OR at a dealer of the customer's choice.

Have always redeemed my membership with customer service, then purchased my crystal thru my favorite retail store.

I want the stores to have the crystal where I can walk into the store and be amazed at the beauty of the product.

Just my thoughts!!

Re: 2010-2011 Collector Society pieces ??? - 05/03/10 02:34 AM

I still support HLs, and Tony especially, but I'm sure Don Devine is not a collector at heart like the Youngers were. I believe that MONEY is at the heart of it all with Mr. Devine and anywhere that he sees that he can make an extra buck he will do it. If you take an $80.00 suggested retail price replica and sell it to a dealer for $40.00, the dealer is making a $40.00 profit. This helps to pay the dealer's operating costs(shipping, electricity, advertising, salaries, etc.). The $40.00 that HLs made on an $80.00 piece has the cost of shipping, design, manufacturing, etc. coming out of their $40.00 ticket. Eliminating the dealer will give Mr. Devine an ADDITIONAL $40.00 of almost pure profit, minus whatever shipping to the customer may or may not cost him.

Greed on the part of Mr. Devine may go before his fall. I. for one, have the GREATEST respect for Tony and what he is trying to accomplish but I feel he is fighting a loosing battle with the greed of Devine. I am with Sandy in the respect that if my dealer falls because of Devine's greed, I will give up collecting my beloved Harbour Lights because I will not be buying from Lightouse Depot, Harbour Lights or Devine.

Re: 2010-2011 Collector Society pieces ??? - 05/24/10 12:38 AM

It's very interesting that no one has responded in the negative or positive in over 20 days to my above post. Obviously, I have either nailed it right on the head or have gotten everybody mad at me when I stated my opinion.

I have been an avid supporter of HLs since buying my 1st piece in 1994 and having over 500 pieces in my collection. If it were not for a dealer's display I probably would not have even known about HLs. I have been on autoship since 1995 and have bought close to 450 of my pieces from the 2 dealers I have been associated with. The remaining 50 pieces have been bought from either HL dealers or from Ebay when I couldn't find them at a dealer. You might say that I'm a hard person to convince that dealers are not a necessity to marketing a good product.

Re: 2010-2011 Collector Society pieces ??? - 07/13/10 06:35 PM

Mine arrived yesterday, #172s. UPS rang the bell and left them on the porch. The box had a large hump on top and was slightly deformed on the top corners. Noticed it was from Harbor Lights and wondered what the hump could be. Opened it and found a highly inflated set of "air pillows." One corner of the Mount Dessert box was crushed. When shipped from coastal Maine to 7000' in Colorado "air pillows" tend to swell greatly. MelB did this happen to yours?

Re: 2010-2011 Collector Society pieces ??? - 07/15/10 04:47 AM

And after unpacking, the 15th anniversary pin (attached to the invoice between the lights and box side) had the post and "frog" broken off the pin back. The lights were in good shape.

Re: 2010-2011 Collector Society pieces ??? - 07/15/10 06:00 PM

Bob, my box arrived the same day as yours. The pillows had swelled, and there was some minor crushing of the "Exclusive" box, but both lights were in perfect condition. My pin was also fine.

Sorry to hear your's was not. Contact HL and tell them, I would think they would replace it, don't you think?

Re: 2010-2011 Collector Society pieces ??? - 07/15/10 09:18 PM

Re: 2010-2011 Collector Society pieces ??? - 07/19/10 02:32 AM

I just arrived home after a driving and visiting trip to Washington State. I was gone 30 days and my husband just tells me that my box arrived last Wednesday or Thursday. #70 on both pieces. they are both beautiful and seem okay. When I looked at the bottom of the box it was bowed from the pillows. My pins aren't broken but I wouldn't trust the fasteners to actually leave the house wearing them on something. So I am glad I finally have my two pieces for 2010.
