The 3-D Experience Work for You?

The 3-D Experience Work for You? - 03/03/99 03:32 AM

The Tybee photo I took Sunday that's now on the HL-dot-com home page was the best of all my shots on this trip. I took lots of photos of the lighthouse with moon and fireworks. Mostly at 1/4 second f5.6 or 1/2 second at same f-stop. Film was Kodak GOLD 200. I did some color intensifying and sharpening in Photoshop, but no 'tricks' like adding the fireworks.

At least on my monitor this picture has a real 3-D look (without the glasses). If I move my head from side-to-side while viewing it, it just seems to 'move' perspective a bit. Could be the hazy moon lends depth to it, but maybe it's just my eyes, or no-line tri-focals or my COMPAQ MV700 monitor. Anybody else get that effect?

I think you're right about the moon adding depth, John. Not quite a 3-D experience, but I can see what you mean. Great shot!

Bravo , this picture is quite special. The LH, the moon and fireworks - all add to the depth of the picture. Maybe a it could be added to a Year 2000 calendar?

Nice picture, John! Great composition too! I didn't know "Mrs. C" let you out after dark...

Sorry John. I must need a new prescription for my glasses, I don't have the 3-D option. But it doesn't lessen the impact of the picture. Nice work!

That's a great shot St. John! I don't quite get 3-D but the "glowing" quality definitely gives the illusion of depth. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Sorry. No 3-D effect here, but it is definitely a fantastic shot. I am glad the weather conditions were able to cooperate, allowing the moon to be seen. Great photo, John.

John, I saw the 3D affect, of course I was wearing my glasses {tri(as in 3)-focals} and had a couple of Chivas's Doubles on the rocks. It is a great shot and the only way it could have been any better at all John, is that I was in the picture.

Thanks everyone, I really wasn't showing OFF the picture -- well maybe a little. I think the effect I see is affected by dark blue and black colors.

Other photos with those colors also seem to have that effect for me.

Oh, you wanted other examples? Thought you'd never ask.

Just give St. John an inch and he takes a well deserved mile.

I don't see the 3D here in Tampa but enjoy the image each time I see it. The scene was really great in person and you captured it for all of us.

I was able to get some really good shots during the course of the day but my night shots weren't any good. But, I only have a Canon Sure Shot.

Thanks John.
