HarbourLights.com moved to a new server

HarbourLights.com moved to a new server - 04/17/01 05:48 AM

As of about noon today (April 16, 2001), the Harbour Lights web site was officially moved to a new web hosting company - a process that began about 3 weeks ago. It may take about 24 hours for all DNS to point to the proper IP address at the new location.

You can tell if you've reached the new server because the photo of the week is of Point Judith RI vs. the old site which still has White River MI.

At the new site you'll find the Society pages will not be working until Wednesday. That includes the Hooper Strait order form.

I've been working on updating the Catalog pages at the new site. We're still missing most of 1996 and 1997, but 1991-1995 and 1998-2001 pages now have a pretty uniform appearance.

Using the Frontpage servers and publishing via Frontpage vs. FTP enables the "Lighthouse of the Day" feature to automatically roll over at midnight (actually midnight GMT right now.) and also enables the use of some hit counters on various pages. I've used them sparingly since I know they can be annoying.

The Internet Index of Lighthouse Links is in need of being updated (especially since Bill moved his site to a new location) and Harold 'Hip' O'Campus is WAY behind on his email. Last time I checked his inbox, there were 81 messages with the locations of 2000-2001 seahorses.

If you find a picture or button that doesn't load, please send me a link to the page that has the broken link and if you find a link that takes you to the wrong page, send me the URL of the page with the incorrect link and tell me which link it is that sent you off in the wrong direction.

Your Webmaster,

John Chidester

Try this to see if it takes you to the new site: www.HarbourLights.com/

If that doesn't work, you can reach the New Site through this IP address, but some features may not work. http://206.19.144.180/

The Collector Forums will remain on the 'old' server.

Thanks for the contunuing work to make the HL web site the great place it is, John. I can't help but wonder how many collectors and others have benefitted from all the information available on the site. And, thanks to Paul for his continuing photography contributions.

Do you really wonder how many collectors and others have benefitted? I would say all of us, for sure!

Thank YOU so much John for making this site the best place on the web to be.....I for one am very grateful for all your ideas, hardwork and dedication to HL and their collectors. Scrolling back in my memory I realize that if I had not found this page, I would have all sorts of free time....but my life would not be as full either! Information, product, and friendships have kept me coming back time and time again...

Thank YOU,
Derith

Needs fixing: On the "Lighthouse of the Day" page, the small picture/text link to the St. Joseph LE takes you to Coquille River.

Fortunately we found the Harbour Lights site when we first began collecting two years ago - it has become an invaluable resource site not to mention all the wonderful people posting their comments here. Thanks for all your hard work John!
