2009 releases ?

2009 releases ? - 12/04/08 03:44 AM

With 2009 right around the corner. Any guesses as to what the new releases will be?

I am hoping for Wood Island, Maine.

I have it from a very knowledgeable and "hands-on" guy that there will be at least one from Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana.

My success rate at guessing what will be released has some what dwindled. I still think Ponham Rocks, East Providence, RI, will be forth coming (sooner or later).

Re: 2009 releases ? - 12/04/08 04:08 PM

The last Legacy listed the states for next years releases. Not sure if this is partial or complete list.

Surpised I don't see California, I thought it already leaked out that a LE of Point Cabrillo was due in 2009.

Looks like no Duluth lights or Minnesota Point yet as Minnesota was not listed.

Curious to see what's for Oregon and Georgia. Maybe a GLOW or some Gone but not forgotten lights?

Delaware??? Could be Harbour of Refuge? Maybe Delaware Beakwater?

Maryland - Many possibilities, but hoping for Point Lookout or Blackstone Light.

New York - Huntington Harbor or Gull Island (as it was) would be great.

Maine - Wood Island ?

Florida - Something from the keys?.

Massachusetts - Some Chops??? maybe the CS pieces???

Rhode Island - I'd like to see Bob M happy again, so my hope is for Ponham Rocks.

Hawaii - Long overdue, should be interesting.

Louisiana - Sabine Pass finally??? maybe??? And will we have two for Louisiana since the 2008 piece had problems?

Canada - Almost the same feel as a US light. Should be a good choice. Too many to guess!

Ireland - I'm not personally thrilled about this one, but hey it might be time to start an Euro section in my collection.

Alabama - Not on the Legacy list, but missed it's 2008 release due to production problems. Hoping this is not a GLOW or LLOM, but a Gone but not forgotten of Chocaw Point.

We should be hearing about the first batch in a few weeks!!! cool

The 2008 piece had problems?? Explain, please. 2008 Releases doesn't have a Louisiana piece listed on the HL site.

This has been mentioned in a few threads over the last month or so. It was a rumor for a while before that. A couple HL dealers verified this recently. Seems there was production problems with the last two Grand Tour pieces(Louisiana & Alabama). We might see them by mid-2009.

Does anyone think we'll get an early Christmas look at 2009 Harbour Lights? It sure would be a great to see what's happening.

Of course, the "Wanting" is going to start sooner or later..... so bring on the pictures!

The list for 2009 will not be released until January.

Re: 2009 releases ? - 12/11/08 09:56 PM

I was about to respond that it would be a nice Christmas present from HL to post the list by Christmas Eve, but expected to see them the usual time about a week later. Seeing John's responce, it looks like sometime early January. frown

Re: 2009 releases ? - 12/23/08 02:22 PM

This never was a thought before now but in the AB line what about "freighters"? I would think that this might be an area to look at, and get some feedback on what people think of this idea.
There are alot of very neat Freighters present and alot (on the bottom of the Great Lakes) that would be awsome collector pc's. Just a thought....
Posted By: Lighthouse Loon

Re: 2009 releases ? - 12/23/08 03:10 PM

Freighters tend to be very large, so I don't know how doable they are. I guess if they could be scaled down enough and still look good, it would be possible.

My thought for an AB would be a fishing boat in peril with a Coast Guard helicopter in rescue mode.
Posted By: flacoastie

Re: 2009 releases ? - 12/23/08 03:42 PM

While a freighter is a good thought you have to consider that commercial boats were not very popular with the collectors in the beginning. The percentage of collectors that have spent time on a frighter versus a Coast Guard/Navy/Light vessel is very small.

Someone from The Forum once proposed showing a USN submarine passing by New London Ledge Lighthouse. I'd buy it even though NLL has already been done.

Re: 2009 releases ? - 12/24/08 05:22 AM

The New London Ledge Light was suggested because that is near where the Sub base is located and subs pass by the light quite often.
Posted By: JJ

Re: 2009 releases ? - 12/24/08 02:15 PM

It was suggested by Ron Foster, who worked for many years building those subs at EB.

Re: 2009 releases ? - 12/24/08 04:38 PM

How about a sub passing The Arizona Memorial , a beautiful HB. Pearl Harbour has a very large sub base.
Posted By: TerryO

Re: 2009 releases ? - 12/25/08 03:01 PM

Pearl Harbour, what a nice pc that would be, and a nice memorial to all service people that were there, and there family's.

Re: 2009 releases ? - 12/26/08 02:36 PM

How about the Anchor Bay release of the WWII Taney. The WWII Taney is the tribute to the men and women that died at Pearl Harbour. We have a living memorial with the Taney. How often can you take a tour of a ship that's been at Pearl Harbour and is still around as a living museum?

PS: Have you bought the WWII Taney or the modern day Taney yet? They are still available for you to pay tribute to these mem and women.

Good Wednesday Afternoon!

Just to let you know that several key dealers will have the ability to post the 2009 Winter Release list at midnight tonight. Remember, it is the Year of the Collector's Choice so this will be another exciting year.

Happy New Year.

Yippie!

Finally, one of my wish lights have been made (HL373). Thanks HL for listening......

HL802 is going to make a lot of people happy as well! Very nicely done. Must have!

Clearly from the latest releases, folks at HL do read the posts on the collectors forum and listen to collectors requests.

Happy New Year!!

Well I don't see anything on either of the 4 above store sites either! confused

Christopher, you must have found them??? Where???

Tony,
Those of us who went to New Orleans and "Lighthouseing the Gulf Coast" with Dave, have been holding a secrete for over 6 mo's as promised. Is this piece in the new announcement, can we talk about it now?

Re: 2009 releases ? - 01/01/09 06:37 PM

Given that the "key" (4) dealers have not posted to the general public the "sneak peek" as promoted by Tony C, the whole thing is sort of ridiculous. When I went on my dealer's website, (one of the "chosen people"), there were "x" on the images and some release HL numbers. There was also a note saying that if you purchased a piece during 2008 (yes, I had) and asked for an HL release email (guess I had not) you would get an email with the new releases (no I didn't get it; yes I am looking for a new dealer....)

Re: 2009 releases ? - 01/01/09 06:38 PM

No Stephanie, that light isn't in this group. It must be a Summer release..

Here you go with the list..

HL368 Harbor of Refuge DE

HL369 Buffalo Entrance NY

HL370 Carysfort Reef FL

HL371 Fort Carroll MD

HL372 Pas a L’Outre LA

HL373 Port Washington WI

HL374 Franks Island LA

HL483 Scituate MA

HL802 Umpqua Lens

I hope Tony doesn't mind, but I had to show you the lens, Harry did an awesome job on this one, I can't wait to get one to shoot images of it myself..

If you purchase from Cape Annie's during 2008 you got a sneek peek access. That's probably how Christopher knew.

THANK YOU PAUL for posting the new release list. I purchased my 2008 pieces from HL dealers who weren't on the exclusive dealer list.

Re: 2009 releases ? - 01/01/09 07:36 PM

All the photos will be posted at HarbourLights.com by Friday evening. Tony's given those dealers a head start on purpose.

Love that Umpqua lens! Wow!

As Tony noted this is the year of the "Collectors' Choice". Who submitted which lights on Paul's list above?

The Harbour of Refuge was on my list, but it was a a couple of other CF members list as well.

Re: 2009 releases ? - 01/02/09 01:49 AM

Since I won't see pics of these till this weekend, I took a few minutes to research that actual lighthouses.

It will be interesting to see what the actual replica will look like.

Will the HL369 Buffalo Entrance NY be the north side or south side? I'm hoping for the south side.

Will the HL370 Carysfort Reef FL be too similar to Fowley Rocks or American Shoal?

Will the HL372 Pas a L’Outre LA be as it currently is, or as it was? I'm hoping it is as it was with keepers house.

Which Port Washington lighthouse is it?

Looking forward to the Franks Island piece.

Stan, the Port Washington should be the old light, not the breakwater light.

Re: 2009 releases ? - 01/02/09 12:56 PM

Well actually, Dave it's the breakwater light..

Posted By: CAVR

Re: 2009 releases ? - 01/02/09 04:22 PM

I am thrilled to have the Port Washington, WI light finally produced, even though its design is kinda "quirky".

It would have been "sweeter" if a set was made to include the old light as a Society Redemption piece and the breakwater as the Society Gift piece. But, I'm not complaining, its finally here! It has been a long 7 years waiting.... wink

Perhaps the old light (located on the hill) will be produced in the future now that it has been restored to its former glory!

Guess I will have to now go out and buy several of these for my family, since they are originally from "Port"!

Re: 2009 releases ? - 01/02/09 05:04 PM

Wow!!! I hit the jackpot !!!

Wickywacky & Paul, thanks for the info and pic. I was hoping the Buffalo light was the Southside, the Port Washington was the breakwater, and Pas a L’Outre included the keepers house.

This is a great batch of releases. Looking forward to seeing pics of all eight LE's.

I will be adding my first lens to my collection.

Re: 2009 releases ? - 01/02/09 05:26 PM

Very good on Port Washington. At one point I thought the discussion was on the old light, but the new one is also an interesting design.

Hopefully the images will appear at HL's web site yet today.

I like the 1200 edition sizes. Makes the people that want to sit on the fence make a decision and either buy or don't buy because they don't have time to procrastinate. He who hesitates is lost. Maybe we'll have a few quick sellouts to get the secondary market blood flowing again.

Happy to see Carysfort Reef. That leaves just one more Florida reef light. Maybe next year?
Posted By: ericlighthouse

Re: 2009 releases ? - 01/10/09 12:46 PM

Well erniedee, that actually leaves two: Sombrero Key and Alligator. Ironically one of these two are the best candidates for tours if we can ever get that far.

I am also pushing for some Little Lights of Mine of the reef lights, however, was told no new Little Light of Mine this year.

By the way are you a member of the Florida Keys Reef Lights Foundation yet? We are just getting re-organized and could use some help. Let me know if you are interested (I am in Orlando).

Re: 2009 releases ? - 01/21/09 09:54 PM

From what I hear there is going to be 32 releases this year, barring any production problems like last year. I don't know if last years production problems pieces are included in the 32 count. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I did hear that we will see some limited LLOM's this year, but they aren't included in the 32.

Posted By: Bob M

Re: 2009 releases ? - 01/22/09 01:38 AM

Thirty-two new releases sounds like a lot in one year. Are you sure that number is correct? I thought Harbour Lights was cutting down on the number of new releases to give collectors a (financial) breather.

Re: 2009 releases ? - 01/22/09 01:38 AM

Loon - Where in the world did you come up with a number like 32 releases? Even in 1997 when HLs was in their heyday they only had 44 releases that included 6 ABs, 8 GLOWS, 1 Society piece, 1 In-store piece, 2 Reunion pieces, 19 LEs, 5 ornaments, Christmas Piece and Spyglass Collection(Counted as 1 piece). Please gives us your breakdown that you hear is coming. I may be giving up the ghost because of running out of room earlier then I expected.

Re: 2009 releases ? - 01/22/09 01:52 AM

Sorry didn't mean to get everybody too excited, but I have to say that's the most life I've seen around here in months.

First off, we would have had 32 releases last year if it wasn't for a production problem. I now know that included a Mark Sherman print as well.

But if you read Tony's post from yesterday, you would have known this already.

Read This

What's interesting is this total doesn't include LLOM's and probably only a couple GLOWs.
Posted By: WackoPaul

Re: 2009 releases ? - 01/22/09 03:24 AM

Tony doesn't say that the LLOM
Quote:
There will be several LLOM , in 2009, each a limited edition custom piece."
aren't included in the total..
Posted By: Lighthouse Loon

Re: 2009 releases ? - 01/22/09 06:06 PM

I agree 32 sounds high without any LLOM's includes and not many GLOWs either. Even if there's 20 or 21 LE's, plus last years Louisiana Grand Tour release, we're still about 7 or 8 short of 32. (I'm assuming a few GLOWs)

I guess we'll have to wait and see what unfolds this year.

For us who buy them all the cost may be hard to deal with, but maybe one or two will be a rare variation, or maybe we'll see a lightning rod again. What about the rare limited 500 store event piece?

For those that only buy a select few, that temptation might be there to buy a couple additional pieces because the selection is greater.

As for if the 32 include Limited LLOM's or not, I guess I heard that somewhere else.
