split rock 412 - 03/20/99 05:09 PM

I read all I could find on the site regarding split rock 412 but I am SO Confused. I need a wacko out there. I have 412 an its edition number starts with an A which to me indicates that it is an open edition as in GLOW. But the label on the bottom signifies it as a Stamp series. Now I understand that only 5000 went through as numbered sets but if mine is part of a broken set, shouldn't it be HL400?

Sidd,
All the HL412 Split Rocks are open edition GLOWS with an "A" or "B" designation. It was not necessary to buy an entire "set" to get one (or any of the other 4 pieces) for your collection.

Roughly the first 5000 were packaged together as "matching" serial number sets for those who like the idea of their pieces to be matched, with all 5 boxes packaged within a larger brown box. Many of those sets were possibly broken up by dealers. or even some collectors, and sold seperately, so the surviving matching sets are less than the 5000 quantity. Beyond the initial 5000, they were sold seperately. *All* the stickers denote the "stamp set" designation, not just the original matching sets.

The HL400 number was for HL's paperwork designation only for identifying a "matching" set, and was never actually put on the individual light's stickers or boxes.
