Miscellaneous lighthouse "sightings"

Miscellaneous lighthouse "sightings" - 10/02/00 08:33 PM

Not in the movies, not on TV

Last week when I opened my charge card bill included were some of those "write your own loan" type checks - just what everyone needs! However, these were lighthouse checks! One of them was obviously Portland Head, the other one I couldn't identify. The cover page featured a photo of the lighted lantern room of Heceta Head almost identical to the photo featured that week on the Browntrout weekly engagement calendar which was sitting on a desk about three feet away!

These "sightings" are getting a bit spooky!

As I didn't care to write myself a loan I saved them for bookmarks (the old fashioned kind).

Coming back from Niagara this weekend, we drove by the "Lighthouse Taxidermy". I've seen alot of stores use lighthouses in their name, etc....but Taxidermy?

Geez, I forgot my punch line - the wording on the cover page to those checks says, " Guiding you to your destination"!

Good one Rod! Location, location, location!

Yep, Madison Avenue sure likes lighthouses.

I was in a furniture store last week and looking at bookcase units. You've probably seen those 'Box Props' - cardboard versions of VCRs, computers, and TVs designed to make the bookshelves 'loaded'.

One of the TVs had a picture of Portland Head.

OK so what is the name for this phenomina?

If they were scantily clad young ladies, it would be "Sex Sells". So for lighthouses is it "Sentinels Sell"?

Or do we need an Acronymn from Dr. Aucremann?

When I got home today, my husband had put a phamphlet on my desk. It is a daily prayer guide that is part of his Bible study series. The picture on the cover is a great lighthouse but not a real one.

Do any of you have the Shurgard Storage units in your area? They have a nice size lighthouse for their facade. All my friends ask if I had them build it so I would have a lighthouse nearby.

Yea, Mombo.....I'd say that the marketing wizzards definitely have your number.. When the credit card companies send me blank checks.....that's exactly what they are.....plain & blank. I guess they haven't found my name in the "Wacko" stack, yet....

Gee, Rod, I'm a big supporter of lighthouse preservation, but is this the best way to preserve our sentinels?

We have a Lighthouse Chiropractic here in town....seems like sightings of lighthouses used in business is increasing!
