Top 10 Stories About Harbour Lights 2006 - 12/24/06 09:41 PM

Several years ago I used to prepare a "Top 10 Stories" about Harbour Lights at the end of a calendar year.

I propose we ask for nominations in this thread and then I'll set up a poll asking members to vote on 3, thus selecting 10 from among the nominees named in this thread.

Please be brief in your nomination. 2-3 sentences is enough. Don't reply to others' nominations, don't comment on others' nominations.

Your nomination can be something positive or negative about Harbour Lights. I will reserve the ability to consolidate related items and reword nominations for consistency of style.

Nominations (this thread) will close January 2, 2007; a new discussion thread will be begun to allow those who wish to elaborate on why particular nominations should or should not be selected in the voting. That thread will be open for comments for a week.

Voting will follow the second week in January with the results of the voting posted about January 15 (results will not be able to be viewed until voting is completed.)

PLEASE ONE NOMINATION PER MEMBER.

I would like to nominate the introduction of the 1st Collector Forums Exclusive, the Erie Land Light . It took a lot of hard work, dedication and blind faith to get it complete and ready for sale. The Forum members came through and it was sold out by December of this year. What a success story!

Definitely one of the top Stories is the Founders collection being offered for sale.

The introduction of the Anchor Bay "Old Macs" should be considered one of the highlights of 2006. The wise business decision to make 4000 red hulls but only 500 white hulls has catapulted this new AB introduction into the hall of fame if you go by recent auctions on eBay.

Although the red hull version may not appreciate much above retail pricing, the white hull version has definitely increased in worth beyond our wildest dreams. Then there are the lucky collectors who managed to score a matched pair.

It really was hard to vote for three only. There were so many good candidates - wish Harry and Big Mac had made it to the top five. Obviously, we all wanted the top three. cool

The final list makes sense, but Grace, Harry and Big Mac are in my mental top of the list... tying with the actual top. towel

I feel the top three are appropriate and could be interchanged with each other's final position.

The sale of Harbour Lights was a "biggie" and will effect every serious collector in the future. The HL Collectors Guide could have easily been #1. Collectors have waited a very long time for such a book to be available. It's wonderful and extra special that it was done by two of our own with the support of many of our extended family of CF friends.

The ELL was definitely a note worthy accomplishment and a definite credit to those who worked hard to make it a reality. It goes to show what can be done when people are willing to do the work. The team came through under the guidance of our leaders who really deserve a lot of credit for their efforts.

The top three are the same as my top three. All ten are top stories, getting it down to three was hard.
