Got my sea legs! I think! - 01/07/06 09:41 PM

Hi All, Just wanted to let you know that I did very well this past summer on the different lighthouse cruises Bert and I took. To quote my NELL friends, "I think I got my sea legs!!" I can't be absolutely certain though as I usually only went on the FAST boat!

We had a great celebration today as Brittany,(our Grandaughter), made her First Reconciliation. The best part was when she said, "this was fun. When can I do it again?" Very different from the way it was when I made mine.

Well, hopefully we'll see you on one of the cruises. I'm really looking forward to the warm summer months.

Hi Sharon--Yep, like they say you done good! But ya gotta take the slow boat(not necessarily to China)once in awhile too. Congrats to Brittany on her First Reconciliation.
Are you and Bert going to LHHC&Y this year? Hope to see "youse" then. laugh

Sharon, I grew up in a small town where priests from Spain were the shepherds of the Catholic flock. First CONFESSION (the word itself instills horror in little souls) was tantamount to the Spanish Inquisition!! Those were the "fire and brimstone" days. "Reconciliation" is a much happier word. Congratulations to Brittany!

Grace, I have to agree with you about first confession and fire and brimstone. I was attending Catholic School and one day we were in church and we just finished praying and upon exiting the pew I stepped on the kneeler and got a good wack across the back of my head by the nun(that was when they could do that for those of us that remember). Stunned,I looked at her with a tear in my eye, and in a very stern voice she said, "I told you yesterday not to step on that." That she did, but I forgot. But I never forgot the wack on the head. eek

Ah, the dear nuns - yes, indeed, I seemed to get in the way of the ruler a whole lot.

Hi All!

Thank you for all your kind comments about Brittany. I agree about "Confession" vs Reconciliation being a scary word. I make it my goal to be sure that the students and parents are very relaxed with this sacrament. I'm able to do this because I'm the Director of Religious Eucation at St. Martha's Parish. It's a large program with 600 students and seventy five teachers. Bert and I have kind of a monopoly on the Parish as I'm the DRE, and he's the Deacon.. It will be very exciting in May when Brittany makes her First Communion. She's looking forward to Spring, First Communion, and is already talking about when she can go on the boat to see All the lighthouses!! She's very happy about the fact that she's now tall enough to climb them as well.

Very momentous year in Brittany's life! One of my friends is the DRE at one of the parishes here; May is one of the really busy months for her. Now Brittany will be able to see for herself why we don't like to miss going up the lighthouse towers.
