WHAT'S ACCURATE?

WHAT'S ACCURATE? - 02/19/99 05:02 AM

Can anyone tell a new guy if it's the tan tower or the grey tower on Beavertail, RI that's representative of the real thing?

Thanks.

Hi Ken, and welcome.

The gray tower is closer to the real color. The tan is the color the tower appears to be sometimes when the sun hits it just right from a low angle. The story goes that the tan paint on the early pieces was mixed based on a photo taken in such light. The mistake was corrected on the later pieces.

OK perceptive Wackos...name the two people in the bottom photo!!

(but don't look too hard, their identities may then be altered)

People in the picture? Bill & Hillary Clinton at a recent visit to Beavertail Light in Jamestown, RI. Hillary was there to announce she is running for "Animal Control Officer." Her qualifications include her new job of keeping her husband on a very short leash.

Could it be Mr. & Mrs. Watson I presume?

Here's why it was easy to think the Beavertail tower was tan...

John, I'd love to take credit for this wonderfully telling photo, but it's not mine.

Ooops... Will the real photographer please step forward and take credit?

I got this photo by e-mail a few days back and must have deleted the original message after saving the photo. My apologies.

After a bit more research, KT, I've found out a surprising history of Beavertail's colors during the past few decades:
