The West Coast Dock Strike and Harbour Lights

The West Coast Dock Strike and Harbour Lights - 10/08/02 01:17 AM

From the HQ in El Cajon comes word that the current dockworkers strike on the West Coast is having some minimal effect on HL product movement from the Orient to the USA.

KB says that the dock strike has been on the news for the past 4-5 months and HL anticipated the possible impact.

Two products -- the 4th Order Fresnel and Minots Ledge -- are on containers on ships either at the dock or anchored off-shore near port.

The newest line "Guardians of the Night" is still scheduled for shipment to dealers in November, so they have not left the Orient yet.

KB says it takes about 45 days typically for product shipments to make their way from the factories to HL's warehouse.

Thanks for the update John. That is certainly good news for us! How would you like to be there when they open those containers of perishables?

If I was the ship's Captain with a load of perishables aboard, I would have headed directly to another port. If all the west coast ports are on strike, then it would have been off to Mexico for a 75% off sale or a donation. Better to get rid of the food for a monetary loss and see people use it than to pay to throw away garbage.

I agree with you Bob. Then again, maybe they should roll out the welcome mat to everyone with a boat and have a half off sale - I'd rent a boat to get half off HL's. laugh

My husband is upset because his Tony Stewart Bass Boat Die Cast is stuck out in the Ocean waiting for the strike to be over.

Actually, there is no west coast dock strike. It's a lockout, which I guess you could call a "owners' strike". The effect on movement of goods is the same though!

Thought I heard on the news that the workers could be back at the docks later today.

I also heard that they might be back today or tomorrow. Correct me if I wrong, but I thought I heard they can make upwards of $100,000 to $150,000 a year! That ain't bad!!!!
