Lighthouse quilt

This is the quilt my wife Joan has been working on for the past year. She finished it just in time for Fathers Day. It's beautiful!! Your wife did a great job! What a great Father's Day gift. Was that a pattern or all done my hand?

What a great gift. How did Joan choose which lighthouses to do? Are they all cross stitched or just the nameplate? A lot of time and love is obviously sewn into that quilt. Please tell Joan I think it is just gorgeous.

Thanks everybody. Bob,keep guessing, Sorry Cape Florida was not one of them. The Quilt was from a applique pattern called Beacons of Light, a block of the month series quilt. The designer is Mary Gay Leahy. Country Quilter in Somers, NY 344 Route 100 (914)277-4820
The name plate was X-stiched for the back. Joan also loves to X-stitch. I will have the Quilt on display at Harbour Lights Regional Event in Milwaukee. Sorry it won't be for sale.

P.S. Thanks for the sticker at Rosemont. Was going to put it on my carry-on but was afraid they wouldn't let me on the plane!

It sure would be nice to have that kind of talent to make such a beautiful gift. I'm not sure what that bottom left one is but I bet it is a Florida light since it has the palm trees in it. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Congratulations Jim and thanks for sharing such a beautiful labor of love from an obviously very talented lady. Joan, you did a fantastic job with this quilt. What a wonderful treasure to be enjoyed and passed down through the generations.

Your Father's Day Lighthouse Quilt is just wonderful. The computer at work would not open up the files with the photos so I had to wait until I got home. I am really envious..that applique quilt takes much love in every stitch. Congrats !

WOW! It is gorgeous! A beautiful piece of artwork! The colors are wonderful! How many stitches do you think went into this quilt? Remember every stitch was made with love. What a great gift! I look forward to seeing this in person at the Milwaukee Regional.

I have seen quite a few beautiful heritage quilts out here in New England, but none as stunning as this one. Besides being a work of art, it is also a work of maritime history. A hundred years from now, it will be looked at as evidence of what we held to be important in our lives in 2000 --- our wonderful lighthouses. I am sure we all hope that these featured lights on the quilt will still be around for future generations to enjoy 100 years from now. Please pass my admiration on to your wife for creating such a wonderful memory quilt.

John, your St. George guess is actually Erie Land Light, and Jupiter could also possibly be Ponce Inlet. Stumped on the bottom left one too, the palm trees narrow it down though.

For those who haven't met the lovely quilt'er... Joan. I thought I would share this picture of Joan and Jim from the club forum and the Wind point meeting thread. They are shown here on the walkway around the lantern room at the top of Wind Point lighthouse.

I suspect that those are Joan's feet peeking out under the bottom rightside of the beautiful lighthouse quilt.

I think the first one is Pigeon Point. Beautiful work - compliments to the artist!

Rod Watson is right, that is Erie Land Light. Second roe, far right...Ponce De Leon, FL. The bottom row, far left was hard to see in the photo. It is.....Diamond Head, HI. The image shown was taken with my digital camera. I also persuaded the quilter to come out from behind quilt and I took another photo with my Nikonis U/W camera. With having six children, her form of relaxing is playing piano, quilting, X-stiching, baking, X-word puzzles. We've been married for 19 years now and I couldn't think of a better person to spend the rest of my life with.

What a beautiful quilt. What was the reasoning behind choosing the lighthouses that graced it? My sister made a quilt wall hanging for my birthday last year and I know I will treasure it always. Great Job Joan!

Derith wins the test of "Forum Observation Powers". She was the first to respond about whether I had changed my guess from the incorrect Point Vicente guess, to the correct Diamond Head guess.

When I emailed JJ that I changed my guess, links and picture, we thought it would be interesting to see, who would both notice it and respond first.

Derith would have been awarded the first prize which was an 8 X 10 of Hatteras at sunset shot in December of 1996, but since she already has one the ruling was that no duplicate prizes would be awarded and instead she got a hearty Congratulations!

Paul has a new name "Stinker Saint". But, I will accept the congratulations.....It was fun guessing the lights on the quilt and I still say Jim is a blessed husband to have a wife willing to spend all those hours on the quilt. Pottawatomie Lighthouse. That would make as a nice prize. Best of all, that's our clubs adopted lighthouse.
