HL is aware of the errors... That MG006 should be Montauk, NY not Montuck, NJ..

You would think that after all these times, HL could get their Musings right. I can load the April and June editions but when I try the August edition there is NOTHING there. It says the page does not exist. What is going on and could someone please send me the August Musing?

Re: August Musing.. - 08/14/07 03:09 AM

It was there earlier. It has been removed. Rich if you dont know the Taney will be released in two versions limited to an autoshipment of 600 to get both versions. Estimated release, October.

I too cannot get anything and had trouble with opening both previouse ones!
How can they put it out then take it away without giving everyone a chance to see it!

Re: August Musing.. - 08/14/07 04:53 AM

I can't download the August Musings either. I had no problem with the previous two, but I get a 404 error when I click on August. When I right click on the August link and save it, the pdf can't be opened--it's only 4k. Can someone help with this? Thanks, Scott

Re: August Musing.. - 08/14/07 05:47 AM

I believe the plan was that dealers were to get a copy today and it would be released to collectors on Tuesday. I wonder if this might be why it is temporarily unavailable, but would show up again Tuesday morning.

Re: August Musing.. - 08/14/07 12:39 PM

Dave, I am not complaining, but ... why should the dealers get a copy before everyone else?

I saw the August Musings, when it was available and I can't see anything there, that should be any use for dealers to know earlier than us "lesser mortals" wink

Could you explain please?

Re: August Musing.. - 08/14/07 02:51 PM

Margret, it is a courtesy to the dealers that they should have a minimal head start on news before collectors receive it. The hope is always that mailings such as this will cause some folks to call their dealers. It is important that the dealers (hopefully) know what the collector is talking about.

They hopefully took it down to fix the errors and then will put it back up..

Re: August Musing.. - 08/14/07 06:49 PM

The Musing still needs a little more work on the corrections... They fixed the spelling of Montauk but not the state.. I called HL and they will work on changing it from NJ to NY..

Re: August Musing.. - 08/14/07 09:37 PM

The Montauk, NY mug listing has been corrected.

I'm hoping we get more info on the Taney. I'd like to know the size and price. And if the wooden bottem is removable.

I would bet that the bottom is made of resin like the base on the Cape Neddick Maine HL329 and the Fresnel Lights..

There is a Seventh Christmas Ornament that can only be purchased at the Lighthouse that it represents. I wonder which Lighthouse it might be?

Hmm.....

OK, Rich. Your 'sworn to secrecy' promise must now be over. Tell us the truth. You MUST have been helping out on this AB. Right?

Re: August Musing.. - 08/15/07 01:50 AM

Well, I must admit that I helped out a little. Getting the information for the current Taney was a piece of cake. Getting the picture of the Taney as she looked in 1941 was not quite as easy. There are pictures on the net showing the Taney as she looked during 1941, but, not to the detail that Harry required. I must have made 30 calls if I made one(CG Historian, CG Engineering and CG Electronics at CG Headquarters), (CG Yards in Curtis Bay MD Shipboard Drawings) and finally the curator at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore where the Taney is tied up. I struck paydirt there as he had a high definition DVD of a painting that the prior CG Historian had made for a book cover that he was publishing. Between that HD DVD and other photos from the CG and the Net, Harry was finally able to get the detail that he required. The rest, as they say, is history. I've reviewed the pictures that Harry took of the Artist Proofs and was really quite impressed with the detail that Harry achieved. He is a true genius when it comes to getting the most for your bucks. I've yet to see the Musing so I can see what they look like in that. I really am glad that Don, Tony, and Harry took the time to reproduce a Coast Guard war time vessel that was a survivor of Pearl Harbor. I am proud to say that I served on board the Ingham, a sister ship to the Taney, and the Coast Guard's National Monument to Coasties lost in WWII, Korea, Viet Nam and peace time actions.

But, would somebody send me a link to the Musings so I can see the Taney.

How many pages to the August Musing? At first, all that would open up is the error message. Now...all I can get to open is page one. confused

Lorie,

What you see is what you get. There is only one page. Kind of a letdown isn't it.

Re: August Musing.. - 08/15/07 04:39 PM

Good Wednesday Morning!

There seems to be some come confusion regarding the purpose of "Musings"; it is simply a "teaser". What I hope will happen is that Collectors call Dealers to get pricing, delivery size etc.

A question was asked as to why Dealers get "Musings" in advance. The process is HL Field Sales Representatives receive "Musings" in advance and are responsible for communicating the information to Dealers. Why? Simple professional courtesy. Could you imagine a Collector coming and asking about a Replica , you, the Dealer, never heard of? Once again, simple professional courtesy.

There is a rumor of a seventh exclusive Christmas Ornament - it is a fact. However, I am awaiting final approval of the sculpture from the Buyer at a Florida Lighthouse. There was to be an eighth for a South Caroline Light - it is on hold.

The Taney looks wonderful. Bill is impressed and I have been to order it.

Doesn't look like my local HL dealer will be carrying the mugs or ornaments. I was hoping to see them upclose before deciding if a I wanted to purchase any of them.

Who's teasing who? What did I miss over vacation? It's hard to get the internet down east.
