Photopoint Offer - 05/02/02 04:55 PM

I just recieved an e-mail from the former entity Photopoint.

They are offering, for a limited time only, to allow me to purchase the photos I had paid to have them store on their site.

It's a baragain according to them- half the price others would charge for Archive CD's of your photos.

Only $29.95 plud $9.95 S&H to get your photos back. What a deal!

Look for your personal offer coming soon to a emailbox near you.

Dennis

Sounds like black mail to me. They have your photos and if you want them back, you have to pay. Such a deal!!! ...and for additional $19.95, we'll throw in a "jewel case" for each and every CD you buy.

Tell them to just email all your pictures to you and make sure you have enough room on your hard drive to handle the files.

Photopoint has left such a bad taste in my mouth....

It wasn't a month from the time I paid my money to them to the time they disappeared. What a waste!

I hope they enjoy the photos, 'cause they are not getting a dime from me! Those crooks!

Would you like to know how I really feel?

Todd,

So far the responses have been about as I expected.

Maybe a little more printable than the responders would like, but about what I expected.

I'll give them this much- they could have just disapeared, but they at least tried to explain.

As much as I dislike the idea of having to pay for my property there are many people out there who did not keep a copy of those files and this at least will allow them to get them back.

Many got burned in that manner.

Luckily the majority of the photos I had on there were duplicated one way or the other.

What do we need to setup a photo host besides a very large disk?

What an entreprenurial idea... you post your photos then they make more money from you to burn your work onto a CD for you. Wow, what a deal! I hope I'm being cynical enough, but I find it very distasteful to essentially see someone making money off of folks twice. They made the money the first time... they should provide you with a copy of your stuff on CD in exchange for the service that they took your money for that they're NOT providing! And plus $9.95 S&H no less. Gheez!!!!

Well mine were all scanned photos so I guess I mostly just lost the time and effort it took to get them there. And I got at least 3/4ths worth of the $9.95 I'd sent them after having used their services for nothing for quite a while. But yes, it certainly seems like quite a price to pay for your own material. They can keep mine!

I was fairly fortunate that I think I might have lost only one picture out of about 250 pictures I had at Photopoint. The picture I do not have backed up (that I can find) was the Ocracow picture without Rock & Jayne, I do have the picture with Rock & Jayne. If for some reason anyone had grabbed that picture (I don't know why anyone would) could you send it to me. I lost it when I switched computers a few years ago apparently it didn't make the transfer disc.
