It's always an easy way to contribute to lighthouse preservation! I'm sure we will hear something now that it's been brought up. laugh

I was wondering the same thing. It seems like it was about this time last year that we were talking about the badges.

Re: 2008 WACKO Badge - 02/28/08 06:49 PM

Thanks for the interest, and for those that have asked me via email. After discussing with my trusted advisors I have decided to continue this project for this year.

The decision was tough because the participation has decreased significantly. I have always viewed this project as a way to enable collectors to work together to make a difference to a lighthouse somewhere. In the past, a lot of $6 purchases added up to a nice combined contribution. I absorbed the costs related to this project so that all the funds would go to the light.

Last year we were able to contribute $750 to the folks at Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation. However, I was able to send this much only because of the very generous donations of a couple collectors in addition to the amount generated by people purchasing badges. I have committed to continuing the program this year, but be sure to get your badges as it may be the last year for it.

I will be posting a poll to choose the light featured this year. You will have only a week to vote once it is posted so stay tuned.

I think we could all afford a few extra dollars to support whatever lighthouse is chosen.

Yes I agree. Dave should up the price to at least $10.00 each, if not more!

I also think the price could be raised to $10. I wouldn't put it any higher than that , though.

People like to donate but they also like to make decisions on to whom and the amount themselves.

You don't want to price yourself out for people and those that would add extra will probably still do so.

And I agree with Dennis.

Raise the price to Ten Dollars -- but NO higher. Many folks wouldn't be able to afford anything higher. Those of us who are able to afford it could consider putting in a few extra bucks at collection time.

Re: 2008 WACKO Badge - 03/01/08 10:00 PM

I'd go for $10. No more -- at least by requirement.

Fifteen people already chimed in in this thread. $150 right there. And I'd be happy to round the 0 up a bit on the check.

I'm in favor of $10.

Re: 2008 WACKO Badge - 03/07/08 04:31 AM

If you are going to St. Augustine and will want a badge, you need to email me your info. I have a draft of the badge in process and should have it finalized in time to get badges done for those who want them for this signing event. I do need to know within the next day or two.

Bowing to the will of the people and the apparent general consensus, we will go with a cost of $10 this year. Let's aim for a grand for Save The Light.

Re: 2008 WACKO Badge - 03/07/08 06:02 AM

Will get the cheque out ASAP. Dave, the usual address?

And...everyone remember, at $10 a badge, that's just 100 badges to make $1000, before people even add on extra donations. There's 80-sumodd of us that posted last month, according to the monthly contest. If all those people buy one, that's $800 right there.

We can all do this VERY easily. This is a light that's really deserving. It's an important example of the tall Southern coastal tower, and an integral part of Charleston's heritage. It's endangered, but I think that Save the Light is an organisation with a pretty solid plan for their lighthouse, and all they need is the dinero to make it work. We can help so easily here.

We won't be getting a Reunion in Charleston anytime soon, but we Wackos still have a chance to make a mark on its lighthouses.

Dave now has a very cool picture for the badge that I got from one of my friends who happened to be standing in the Save the Light Office when I called her yesterday..

So it will have an offical Save the Light image on the badge, which was shot from the air over the light with a barge sitting next to it. The barge is involved in the work being done on the lighthouse. It is a very current image!

The photographer is Larry Workman of Save the Light..
