2005 Apostle Islands Boat Trip-Part 1

Suzanne, I am definately interested in the Apostle Island Boat Trip before the Reunion. The two boat trips in August were so much fun that I wouldn't want to miss out on this one. Not only are the Lighthouses great, but the frienships that go along with them are even better!! Sign me up! Jodi

Hello All,

THe Keweenaw Star has a cruising speed of 20 miles per hr or 18 knots the cruise time from the Keweenaw Upper to the apostles is about 4 hrs if we got good weather. Just to let you know that we can hold about 2400 gallons of fuel and the 4 seperate bilge compartments are big enough to sleep just about everyone ha ha.

I'll put in an order for 2 more who are interested.

I would be interested in a boat trip either before
or after a reunion. As long as we're going to be in the area I would like to see as many lighthouses as we can!

Suzanne, I'm with Derith. With Labor Day weekend "after" the reunion, I would think myself and others could fit this in better after the reunion. I really want to do this trip but the week before could be a problem for this working boy. That would mean 2 weeks off in a row.

Does anybody know how many, and which lighthouses
would be seen on the Appostle Island boat trip?

I am sorry I didn't answer this before. It would be difficult to do the trip after the reunion. We need to schedule it on weekdays, not over a weekend. The Labor Day Holiday weekend would raise the costs. If there wasn't a reunion, the trip would be the first week in August because that is when the weather on Lake Superior is usually the calmest. Because of the reunion, the trip is now tentatively scheduled for August 24, 25, 26, 2005.

We will see: 14 Mile Point, Ontonagon, Ontonagon pier light, Michigan Island Old, Michigan Island New, Outer Island, Raspberry Island, Sand Island, Devils Island, Minnesota Point, Duluth South Breakwater Inner, Duluth South Breakwater Outer, Duluth North Breakwater, Two Harbors, Two Harbors Breakwater, Split Rock, and Keweenaw Upper Entry.

We also plan to spend time on land in Duluth and at Split Rock.

Is there a reason why the tour doesn't include Chequamegon Point and La Pointe light? That must be why the Ashland Breakwater light isn't included since it's near those two.

Do you have any idea what the cost will be? Are you still planning to spend a night in Minnesota? Just curious. We've stayed at 4 or 5 of the resorts along the shore between Two Harbors and Tofte.

Though we aren't going to the reunion, I'm hoping we can join you on this trip. It sounds like a lot of fun.

Ashland is worth cruising past. The only real way to see it is by boat since it's on the end of a mile long rock pier. Chequamegon (pronounced "sha-wa-ma-gon") might be a stretch as our boat couldn't get close enough for any decent shots due to the depth of the water.

Thanks, Suzanne, for giving us tentative dates for the pre-reunion tour. That really helps with our planning. We'll be looking for a cost, payment process, etc. It's shaping up to be a great trip.

We plan to spend two nights in Minnesota, one in Duluth and one near Split Rock. I don't have a final price yet. Chequamegon Point, La Pointe light, and Ashland Point might be difficult for the boat to get to, but I will check on that.
