On the last day of the Dave Hannum Maine tour, a customer in the Lobster Shack Restaurant noticed my lighthouse name badge and asked me which Maine lighthouse was my favorite. By then we had seen over 30 lighthouses...many very unique and several in picturesque settings. But when he asked me, I couldn't come up with an answer. Portland Head and Bass Harbor Head lights were both breathtaking. I can see why these are two lights that claim to be the most photographed lighthouses in Maine (or maybe the US).

After the tour ended, Randy and I stayed in a rental cottage .75 miles from Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. Instead of trying to get to several more lights, we just took it easy and hung out by the lighthouse several hours every day. After watching two sunrises and three sunsets at Pemaquid, I now had an answer to the question. Pemaquid Point Lighthouse is my favorite lighthouse in Maine...

Friday, October 13...Pemaquid about 20 minutes before sunrise

After the sunrise, the clouds parted, and it was a beautiful day.

Pemaquid...A Mirror Image. This morning was the only time the water was still enough to get a near perfect mirror image.

Very Nice Tammy!! I too list Pemaquid as my favorite Maine light, we have always stopped there on our Maine trips.. I can say it's my favorite Maine light only because East Quoddy is in Canada, though.. You really moved your feet! Great Job!

Wonderful pictures,Tammy! I, being a Maine native, also love Pemiquid. Love your pictures of the reflections in the tidal pool. It seems like I have never had enough time to spend there. I think next time I need to spend
several days so I can be there for sunrise, sunsets and maybe even a moose!

Kay,

The airport was in Wiscasset. Besides Pemaquid, I saw Monhegan, Heron's Neck, Whitehead, Franklin Island and Doubling Point and one of the Doubling Point Range Lights. (I did post aerial photos of all the lights except for Doubling Point.) Doubling Point and Whitehead were not planned, and I just had one pass by those lights. The pilot had a small (two seater) Cessna. They are great because the pilot can slow the speed of the plane more than a larger plane. However, they don't go as fast. So, it takes longer to get from one light to the next. There was another light that I wanted to see, but the pilot didn't want to go that distance with that plane.

Heron's Neck was my favorite from the air. I'm not sure if it was freshly painted. It was bright white with full sun, and I struggled trying not to blow out the highlights.

If you want rate info or the pilot's contact information, send me a message. Else, you may find doing a google search.

Tammy

Those are fabulous photos. I would love someday to be able to photograph lighthouses from a plane. We love Pemaquid and these pics are among the very best we have seen.
Thanks,
Judy

Yes Tammy I would like to have contact information, Maybe some of the other forum members would like to know also for future trips.
I usually go up several times a year. My daughter live in Maine and when I was up there in October, she suggested that we go lighthousing. Of course I was delighted!
We went to the Rockland area.
We saw Rockland Breakwater, Owl's Head and Rockland Harbor Southwest. I had seen the first two several times but not Rockland Harbor Southwest. I had tried to find it in the past but never did. This time we did! It is privately owned and the owners live next door.
