Here are the pictures from a recent trip the Au Sable lighthouse. To get there it is a 1.5 mile walk each way, On a flat dirt dirt road, not a bad walk (level, no loose sand and not hilly)

From the beach below

The keepers house (on the left) has recently had some restoration work done, looks great from the outside but mostly empty inside.

With the fisheye (for fun)

This picture was taken from the log slide, about 3 miles away, on a different day after a passing storm. You can just see the top of Au Sable sticking up on the point.

Grand Sable dunes. This is just to the right taken from the same place as the last picture, the dunes are a couple hundred feet high.

Here is a fisheye view from the log slide overlook with the Grand Sable dunes and the area where the lighthouse is (although you can't see)

Nice pictures Mark. John and I walked out to Au Sable last year after the HL Reunion. It is a pleasant walk since it is mostly shady with a hard packed dirt road. Did you get to climb the lighthouse?

Thanks for sharing your photos, Mark. Bill and I are going there in September. We didn't get a chance to visit before or after the reunion so we are taking in a bunch of lights we missed.

Nice pictures - thanks for showing them, Mark. Brings back good memories - I was among the group of men following Lorie all day long.

Thanks for sharing!! Love the fish-eye shots. How were the road conditions when you were there? Was the light open to climb? It looks like the lantern room was closed off in your shots.

The light was not open due to staffing problems according to a sign at the campground where you park (AKA, no money to pay a staff) The weekend before we went the lighthouse was open AND they had a shuttle bus (probably a van) to take people back to the light, I think it said it was $1.50 and it was a van setup for lifting wheelchairs. (nice to see them make it handicap accessible, since the 3 mile trip would be very difficult at any other time)

The sign also had a date(s?) in August to be open again, Jen you might want to call back and find out exactly when.

The road was not too bad in my opinion, probably did 20-25 mph most of the time.
