I was honored and pleased to see that I won an honorable mention out of over 1,000 images submitted in this year's Lake Superior Magazine 10th Annual Photo Contest, a publication based in Duluth, Minnesota dedicated to the Lake Superior region. The photo of Rock of Ages was shot on the WILD boat tour around the Keweenaw and Isle Royale Lighthouses last summer in Michigan's gorgeous Upper Peninsula.

Nice job! That is quite an honor. One of my lighthouse pictures of Tillamook Rock won editor's pick of the week for the site I help moderate. That was kind of cool...

BTW, on the 2002 results page, I like that shot of Duluth light as an Honourable Mention. Very different.

I'm curious how many photos you submitted. Did you send any waterfall photos? Some of the ones you've posted are as good or better than the grand and first prize winners...in my opinion.

Tammy, you can submit up to 10 images. Here are a few others I submitted:

I took this one last fall on a hike to Au Sable. I thought this one stood a decent chance of placing somewhere.


This second one is of Bond Falls in the Western UP near Paulding.


This one is the stream to Upper Hungarian Falls outside of Houghton. We hiked about 1/2 mile to see this waterfall but it was all dried up, so I decided to shoot the stream instead. I love the reflection and the placement of the single red leaf in the bottom of the frame.


The one below of Wagner Falls is pretty much from the same angle as the other one entered that also received honorable mention - I entered the original color version of the same image below (the one below has had some genetic modifications and enhanced color added to it).

Great photos, all, Jen -- but my favorite is the last one!

Jen, do you like MI waterfalls? Because I remember that the Penrose family, who wrote the "A Traveller's Guide to 1XX Michigan/Eastern/Western Great Lakes Lighthouses" books have one called "A Traveller's Guide to 116 Michigan Waterfalls." Not sure if you've ever heard of it, but you may want to check it out.
