I realize that August is quite a few months away but I wanted to give you a heads up to MARK YOUR CALENDARS TO ATTEND the NELL Fundraiser on Block Island. We will be celebrating the 10th ANNIVERSARY of "THE MOVE" of Southeast Light away from the eroding bluffs.

Great food, lots of fun and surprises and of course the lighthouse. Details will be announced but I wanted to give you all the time to plan to be there.

One can never be told early enough in my book. It is just the remembering part that hangs up most people. Can you believe I already know of another lighthouse event to be held on that same day?

I made my reservations today and to underline the fact that 6 months is not early enough- I could not get my first 4 choices.

I was able to get something that my wife Esther will like, but not my first choice.

Make your plans as early as possible- Block Island does not have unlimited options.

Dear Friends of Southeast Light and Lighthouse Preservations...For a bit of further information, there is a fine motel with good amenities on the Point Judith (mainland) side, right across from the Block Island Ferry dock. It's called the "Lighthouse Inn" and has over 100 rooms, pool, breakfast room etc. Not cheap either, but much better facilities than "on the Block".
Ferries run about every 1-2 hours in the summer, and you could get over to the Island easily and with time to spare. We hope to have a shuttle bus to take you up to the Southeast Light.NELL will be "manning" all the cooking and events, auctions etc. A tremendous raffle is also going to be offered on the internet in the near future...Please email me with any questions, or if Carolyn and I can give you any information...Frank Carbone

what date is the Block Island excursion?

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong and I hope they do, but I have August 9th circled on my calendar and that's when I plan on being there. The date was announced at this past weekendss LHHC&Y (Light Houses Hot Chocolate and You) day in South Portland Maine were 72 hearty souls braved the cold to visit Cape Elizabeth, Portland Head, Portland Breakwater (BUG) and Spring Point Ledge. We were able to climg the last three. GREAT TIME WAS HAD BY ALL!

Yes Bert, you are correct that the date is August 9th.

You are also correct that we had a wonderful time at the annual "Lighthouses, Hot Chocolate & YOU", this year in Portland, Maine.
