Who says that you can't teach an old Sea Dog new tricks. I'm a retired Coastie with 23 years of service. Some of that time was Navy(4 1/2 years) but then I saw the light and joined the real sea service. Two tours aboard ship(one tour in Viet Nam aboard ship) and a tour of Alaskan isolated duty at a LORAN A Station while in the Guard. I finished up as a CWO3 ELC and have now been out since 1985 living the good life in Florida. I've been collecting Harbour Lights since 1994 and am a Society Charter Member. Have been looking at this web site since John started it but have only monitored it since I'm really not into computers. Finally bought one though when my company sold some of their older ones cheap. I probably will continue monitoring , but, may ocasionally post something. Most of my posts probably will be on the Marketplace as this is the way I keep my lighthouse addiction going. This finishes me for now.

Welcome aboard to the forums,youll find a great bunch of people with a lot of lighthouse knowledge.I also was with the CG for 6 yrs at Boston with SAR enjoyed the wurk but no advancement so came back to the navy and the seabees til they put me out to pasture with 27 yrs total with duty in WW2 Korea(stateside) and viet nam then out.Bill O'Brien

Welcome "flacoastie". I see you're from Ocala. My best buddy, who is also a retired Coastie (service #354119), lives in Citra. He served on the Burton Island and the Chattaqua and was staioned in Hawaii for a couple of years. He also was stationed on the west coast. His name is Tom Smith and now runs "Tom Smith's Portable Welding". He was a merchant seamen for many years and a member of the Coast Guard Reserve out of St. Pete. He just retired this year. I'm curious to see if your paths ever crossed.

Welcome aboard flacoastie. We are certainly glad you have finally registered. I too am a retired Coastie after 20 years. I was one of those deck apes with several years of sea duty onboard the Alert, Hamilton, Madrona and Cowslip. I also served in Vietnam in 1971-72, have some time at a few SAR stations and a stint at HQ in DC. Anyway, good to see you posting.
