I first posted this topic in November of 1999
just a few days after my Grandfathers 90th birthday on 11/14/99. The last time I saw my Grandfather to visit him at home was 4/2/00
and during the course of this visit he recounted for me some memories of his favorite vacation pass time which was charter boat fishing on the Chesapeake Bay.

During this conversation he recounted meeting a few light keepers and speeking with them about the daily work . although he could not remember thier names he said that lightkeeping was a lot like his own job as a farmer in that the work is never done.

My Grandfather passed away this past Easter Sunday in his sleep at age 90. During the services this past tuesday there was more laughter than tears as his famous wit and humor was remembered the most and all that he gave to his family.

I am pleased to hear that there was laughter and joy and the family gathering instead of just sorrow. The best way to remember a loved one is through the good times shared with that person.

Lonnie... I know there is nothing I can say or do to ease the pain you must be feeling in the loss of your grandfather. One thing is certain... a man's legacy lives on through the wonderful memories his friends and family have of him, long after he has passed. It is Wonderful, however, that you and he were able to spend some quality time together....talking about various things that occurred in his life while he was alive.
