I have discovered a new source for Anchor Bay Display Cases. The cases come with a light oak wood display base and have an acrylic plastic display case. The company is a large manufacturer of display cases for sports, doll, NASCAR, etc. collectibles. I talked to the boss about modifying a 1/18 scale NASCAR Display Case(Model D00-0018W) from their website to the inside dimensions of 12 7/16" W x 5 1/8" D x 5 1/2" H for the MACKINAW and he indicated that this would not be a problem and there would not be an additional charge over their normal catalog price of $28.53. The cost for each modified case will be $28.53 + $6.50 UPS shipping for a total of $35.03 per case. For this price you can have a prefinished light oak wooden base or they will leave the base unfinished and you can darken the oak base as you see fit. You also have a choice of a mirrored or unmirrored back panel. It will take them a week to modify the case to the above dimensions and ship it to me. I saw one of their NASCAR Display Cases in Daytona and was very impressed with the quality. Needless to say, I ordered 2 of these modified Mackinaw cases.

In talking to Jeff Sampson at 1-888-742-5567, he also indicated that they would consider modifying any of their other cases for other Anchor Bay ships that did not come with a case. He said that he would welcome other inquiries about his products. The name of the company is Clearwater Displays located in Binghamton, NY. Their website is www.clearwaterdisplays.com and their phone number is 1-888-742-5567. They take credit cards and will accept your order from their website on standard available cases or over the phone for special modified cases.

Here is a direct link to the case Rich is referring to (had to look around a bit to find it).

Looks like a nice case, and the price is certainly very reasonable. Pretty cool that they are willing to modify and tailor your case for you.

Rich,

I am interested. We need to settle some holiday bills and check our budget.

Next month looks better.

Do need cases for our pair.

Thanks Dan! Didn't want to think I had done all this in vane, especially asking the guy if he would consider modifying a small amount of his display cases if Forum members called him.

I just received my 2 Mackinaw display cases by UPS today. They are perfect and well woth the $35.00(includes UPS shipping). I asked for unfinished oak bases so I could stain them real dark. The woodworking looks great and the case to base fit is fantastic. The clear case is made of acrylic plastice with square, rather then rounded, edges and the mirrored back also looks great. No longer will I make the cases myself. The brass nameplate fits on the edge of the base and really sets it off. I would highly reccomend these cases to anyone.

I'll post a picture when the bases are stained.

Sure want to see that picture, Rich. Must be pretty good for you to quit making them - yours are absolutely beautiful!

I'm bringing this to the top again if anyone is interested in ordering ready made cases for either their Mackinaws or Taneys. I just received my cases for the Taneys and they are fantastic looking. The company will custom build your cases to any dimension with either a clear or mirrored back on either a finished or unfinished oak base. Each case runs approximately $38.00 with shipping. Need more info, contact me or look at the link in the first post.
