Well the temps may not show it or even the snow and ice that fell on Tuesday and Wednesday, but the Mackinaw is at the Soo Locks breaking ice in preparation for the opening of the locks tomorrow. There are three ships lined up waiting for the start of the shipping season in Lake Superior. Hopefully mother nature will get the hint and send some warm weather.

A friend in Germany had heard about icebergs in Lake Michigan this past winter and emailed me asking about them. I couldn't help him. Have you heard or seen anything resembling an iceberg in the big lake?

The iceberg is probably a frozen lighthouse!

Noticed in a weather article the mention of 25 foot seas on Superior . . .

The shipping season is under way on lake Michigan already, The Joseph L. Block delivered it's first load of ore of the season on March 15th at Arcelor Mittal's #7 blast furnace in East Chicago, IN. (probably picked up near Escanaba, MI a few days earlier)

Well, the magnolias are blooming in Kansas City and so are the daffodils and it's snowing! Doggone it! Anyway the snow is probably on its way across I-70 to those of you in Indiana. My spring present to you.. LOL whistling
