Anyone that has any info on upcoming lighthouse releases care to share it with your connected collector buddies?

In the last Lighthouse Legacy, it was mentioned that their will be 3 release groups this year. January, April, & June.

The collector society pieces will be announced early April to consumers, late March to dealers. Maybe John or HLKathy could verify this.

I guessing that in addition to the CS pieces, HL will announce a few more LE's & GLOW's that will be released from April thru June. Maybe John or HLKathy could verify this as well.

My dealer called yesterday to tell me that my Point Bonita was in and while on the phone she asked if I would be interested in the Point-No-Point, WA HL which was coming out later this year. Anyone else heard about this one?

Point No Point, WA sounds like a good one. This is the first I've heard of it.

I wonder if it will be how it currently looks or as it was when first built in 1879?

Had to do some digging to find these pictures from my visit in Sept 2002.

When I visited it still had a Fresnel in the lantern room.

This was one of those fun trips that was wrapped around a business trip. A certain very nice and helpful forum friend reviewed my travel plans and told me which lights to be sure to see and which I could cut out if I got off schedule. Since you are very dependent on the ferry schedules in this part of the country timing really is everything.

Nice to see that another WA light may be joining our collections. Thanks for the "heads up", Larry.

Dave, Nice photos of Point No Point. The main building looks a look like Point Bonita.

I'm absolutely astonished that there are two places named "Point No Point" - and both of them have lighthouses!!!

The one in Maryland is quite different from the one in WA.

Rosalie,

That's nothing- there are two lights named Stony Point in NY state and they look very different as well.

Here's the one on Lake Ontario-

Here's the one on the Hudson River- I've been to this one so I have a photo of it.

My astonishment was that there were two places with that name, which I consider quite unusual and ambiguous, rather than that there were two lighthouses named the same.

Once when the Navy was using the target off Point No Point, a British gent called the Coast Guard to ask if his course was OK, and he said "Your No Point Point, or Point Pointless or whatever it is".

The Washington Point No Point is much more architecturally interesting than the one in the Chesapeake, which is just another caison lighthouse. (IMHO)

I also waited a good ten minutes. It kept saying, loading, loading, loading and when it finally said done, all I got was a blank page!

Didn't know we were talking about it here, as I started a new tread for the Musings in the Harbour Lights General Forum area.

I got the link opened and displayed the page (cable internet and lots of memory) but it was very slow.

If I recall, the last Musings loaded very slowly also.

Well folks,

That one page contains 1.97MB of information -- or 1.97MB of something. Who knows? That's an awful lot of space. What's going on?

Even though I have broadband, it took about ten minutes to load.

It loaded faster now, but 1.97MB for a single page is ridiculous. I get a 100 page magazine in PDF format with color photos on every page and it is 13.5MB.

Not interested in the Old North Church building. The Pointe Aux Barques LLOM is nice. The return of the Cloisonne Pin for society members is great news!

In addition to the page being very large in size for some reason, you all tried to download it as soon as you received your email notification. I'm sure that umpteen hundred people trying to download it at the same time also contributed to the slowness.

Mine took a bit after I gave up on it right after the link arrived. Right now it comes up with a page not found error so either they are trying to fix it or everyone just got home and are trying to download it.

Oh ... our thread has gone... so OK ... try again here....

Why does a single page take1.97MB? And therefore an age to download... I just wondered that in not so many words in my previous thread.

I guess it may have something to do with the pictures on that page. I bet they are high resolution and therefore space hungry.

Also.. has anyone tried to ring up about the Point Aux Barques HL yet?

I gave up on the number in the April Musings, because I got an answer phone message, several times, which I just could not understand / hear properly.

So I sent off an email to the Society. Hope that will work out. Keep fingers crossed!!!!

Once you have it displayed in your Acrobat window, by all means SAVE AS a copy so you don't have to download it again! It will load much faster from your own hard drive than over the Internet.

I'm sorry, Loon. I removed this as a courtesy to Harbour Lights (they didn't ask me to). This is a publication for Collectors Society Members only and while it would be nice to redistribute it, we just can't do that without Harbour Lights' permission.

Hopefully, HL is working on improving the file and making it smaller so it can be downloaded.

Sorry 'bout that.

If it is a problem with the piece itself they would fix the PDF and replace the existing one with the new one. Same address/link to download it, just connecting to the new one instead of the original.

John, That's ok. This morning it dawned on me that maybe I'm not suppose to do that.

I was just trying to help my fellow CF members get the latest news, especially the number to call for the limited Point Aux Barques.

I hope everybody can get there copy soon. smile

On Behalf of Tony Constantino:

April Musings – I apologize that so many of you are having an issue opening the page.
While I have no clue; I understand that the number of hi-resolution pictures may be causing the problem.
Our IT Department is working to resolve.

Here is the release schedule for the 2007-2008 Collectors’ Society:
Field Sales Representatives – Friday March 30, 2007
Harbour Lights Web-site Posting - Sunday April 1
Renewal Mailing to Collectors the 2nd week of April

If you are questioning “Why the Field Sales Representatives first”? Each of these men\women are professionals and it is a professional courtesy. It is important they know what is going to be released in advance of their Dealers. Having worked on the road, I cannot tell you how embarrassing it is to have a Dealer know more that you do!

There is an April Release planned beyond the Society, however, I am not sure of the timing as I write this correspondence.

Musings is a benefit of Collectors Society membership and was emailed to Collectors Society members.

Harbour Lights reports that the April Musings has been 'compacted' to about 800K from 2.1 MB. Should download for anyone. Let Tony know if it does not.

Go back to your email from Harbour Lights and click through now. The file name remains the same.

Tony has given permission to post a link to the Musings on the CF in the next few days. Non-CS members will be able to view the file tomorrow.

Altho' I still get the message "page not found," now when I click on the link within that message, it does load the newsletter and I was able to print it. However, I downloaded a newer version of Acrobat Reader yesterday (took some doing 'cause the newer version does not remove the older version and that had to be done before I could complete the setup--of course, the setup disappeared and I had to download Version 8 a second time anger anger !!) and can't say if using Version 7 will allow you to see the newsletter.
Sure hope they get a handle on correcting these glitches before the next release.

The glitch was exactly had been supposed - very high res photos were used, creating a very large PDF which in turn backed up the whole pipeline of people trying to download it. It has been resized and reloaded to their servers. Try the link now and you should be able to download it no problem. It took just a few seconds to load for me. Don't have to upgrade to the newer version of Reader.

Problems, Problems, Problems.....

Can't anything be easy anymore?

I sure hope the soon-to-come "Legacy" isn't going to be this much trouble .... you know, the ole published version that was mailed to us was a heck of a lot easier on everyone!

I'm just glad to find out it wasn't my computer that was the problem. Yes, I still love the published version best but we need to get use to the electronic version. There are so many reasons why the hard copy is better but only one reason why the electonic version will reign---cost!

Margret and Bob,

Regarding the Point Aux Barques LLOM, I called today and left my name and number and a nice woman from the Lighthouse Society returned my call. She said to tell everyone to keep trying as they are in and out. I ordered the Point Aux Barques LLOM and she said that there are about one-half of them left. The number is 989-428-3035.

Much better ...
The new improved "shrunk" Musing version is much easier to download. I suspected that the problems were due to the pictures. But it works fine with the smaller file size.
Great!!!! Thanks to the HL IT department!! vhappy

I was finally able to open the April Muzing. A big thank you to the very helpful CF members for providing the phone number so I could order the Pointe Aux Barques LLOM. The lady was very nice and deserves a great big groupwave because I know she was very busy answering the phone and returning calls for the orders.

Now that we know all about the CS pieces, now we can look forward to the next issue of the Lighthouse Legacy and what other releases will be announced.

Anyone know when the next Lighthouse Legacy hits out email inbox? Did I read somewhere it was April 9th?

I would assume that some lighthouse releases will be announced at the same time. laugh

Well, don't I look stupid? I just wanted to say that I really like the printed Legacy. I like to sit and look it over at leisure. And in my easy chair.

ginnyanne,

Don't feel badly. Many of us have done the same thing -- including me. If there is a mistake to be made, it seems that I'll make it.

And by the way, many of us agree with you about the Legacy.

I never saw that done before.
Posting your quote of yourself quoting a post.
Did I say that right?

I think you made your point.

The costs of printing and postage and the desire to hold the line on Collectors Society membership just aren't going to make it possible for 2007-2008 to include a mailed copy of the Legacy according to a well-placed source at Harbour Lights wink

The return of the Closonne pin should be welcomed by many. Not for it's instrinsic value, but as another 'thank you' from Harbour Lights.

As for the content of the Legacy, for the past 2 years + I was responsible for the design and layout and some of the content. I hope you found it at least equal to the content of the old 'hard copy' issues.

Starting with this coming issue, the production has been 100% in-house. A new look, and still good content in my opinion - with articles contributed by Ron Foster, Tim Harrison and yours truly as well as the column from Tony.

The Collectors Society page has a picture of the front page of the redesigned Legacy. Members for 2006-2007 and probably anyone new who signed up for 2007-2008 already will probably get a link to this next issue on or before April 9.

2007 represents the first full year under which the new owners of Harbour Lights had full control -- of the programs and selection and design of the releases.

I don't think Don and Company are getting enough recognition at holding the line (even lowering it) on prices and edition sizes.

Consider the new Collectors Society Exclusive at $60 compared with $85 for the past several years and the lower prices (and smaller) event pieces.

John,

I do appreciate the reduced edition sizes and the lower prices on some items. And I'm also impressed with the smaller footprint for LE's and event pieces.

I am hoping that buisness improves enough that a return to the hard copy Legacy is possible next year.

I agree with that! Very good point to pointout. This is a drastic reduction in price for a "fairly" good size piece.

I know I will be getting both of them. Both range lights for $99.00... not too shabby!

Don, Tony and Company has done a fantastic job with the lower productions and the lower prices.
Don't know how they are doing it except for taking losses for our gain.

Thanks Again

I think what Don, Tony, & company are doing is a win-win situation.

There being creative in finding ways to make the replicas cheaper(money wise, not quality wise) and then sharing the savings with the collectors by reducing selling price.

I like the lower production numbers myself! And I finally got a double digit HL...#90! This is my first one in my collection.

Don, Tony and company are doing a wonderful job. Lower production and lower prices, but not giving up quality, I don't know how they do it.

Looks like the distribution date is now 4/10. Watch your inbox.

New look for the Legacy. Don't expect the June introductions - way too early for that.
