This is a continuation of comments started under the Split Rock thread.

I've noticed that New Point Lomas consistently have numbers that are fading. Whether stored in the box since San Diego or on display, the flag numbers are fading off. Anybody else notice this?

John

John, My NPL #618 is also fading. It is almost unreadable now. I've also noticed this on my Jeffrey's Hook. Richard

The flag number on the NPL which I have in the display case appears to be moderately light, compared to the other lighthouses around it. Not sure how bold it was when we first got it but will keep an eye on it.

#696??? Now I really am confused. I also see now how the reference to WACKO came about

Checked out the NPL we got through a trade. The numbers are faded compared to other lighthouses, but I don't remember what it looked like when we got it. All the other ones seem alright.

Hey, NvrEnuf...the #696 reference above refers to the *individual* hand written serial number on the "flag" of each piece, not the HL### item number dedicated to a particular lighthouse design on the bottom stickers.

My #33 NPL is faded a little, but holding out OK.
#477 North Head is almost invisible.
#983 Michigan City (green water) and #656 West Quoddy Head are also faded quite abit.

I checked mine. The numbers seem to be holding out OK. My NPL is on a fairly dark background so it's not so easy to read as others.

Number 726 looks OK but as Lamar said, the dark background makes it harder to read.

Hi Rod,
Thanks for clearing that up. I'll have to check NPL and see. No offense intended for the WACKO crack..from what I can tell I am well on the way to sinking into WACKODOM.

I don't have a NPL but rumor has it some were numbered with "disappearing ink." I did see a CH-2, Coquille, and Burrows today. I also saw the NPL at the same dealer and I couldn't read the number on it because of fading.

Could this be the curse of "Bob Younger" haunting Harbour Lights? As the poor guy laid on the side of the road with his broken Harley it was rumored he uttered his last breath saying, "If you ever think of making the Statue of Liberty as an HL I'll see to it that all your edition numbers fade off every NPL." And, so it goes....Bob faded away just like the numbers on your NPLs.

One does not sink into Wackodom - one rises to it. :-)

Checked the NPL in my curio and #698 is easy to read. Or do I have it memorized? How WACKO would that be?

The ink on my #492 NPL is noticeably lighter than the ink on any of my other HL's. Don't recall precisely how dark it was to begin with but it's probably half-way gone.

John & Paul, did either one of you take a close up picture of your NPL flag for the archive of photo's ? if so might it be possible to take another current photo and compare the two ? maybe then we would be able to see if they are fading or were just light colored in the first place.

I have checked mine and it just appears to be on the light side, yet readable

I just checked my NPL #505 and the ink is still fairly dark. It dosn't seem to have faded since I bought it. Hopefully it won't.

The NPL #580 can be read however, is much lighter than our other HL pieces.
