That's quite a lineup, JC! The East Brothers piece looks super. I'm looking forward to adding that one to my main curio.

Very nice lineup of the new Society Piece and the membership gift. I know for sure that 3 out of the 5 pieces offered will find a way to my collection. The first three. I think the bridge is a nice piece, but I'm not into bridges.

Regarding the "Renew you membership by May 1st in order to have an opportunity to win a gold bridge" or words to that effect:

I spoke with Customer Service this morning and everyone whose dues are current on May 1st will be eligible, not just those who renew between now and May 1st. So let's see the odds of winning will be something like 1 in 25K or so! eek

To reinforce Mombo's post... If you prepaid for 2003-2004 membership in a previous multi-year membership purchase, you will automatically be in the drawing for the gold-plated Golden Gate Bridge. If your membership expires on April 30, 2003, you'll need to renew on or before May 1, 2003 to qualify. If you are not sure when your membership expires, give HL a call at 800-365-1219 and they'll be happy to help you.

If you are not a member of the Collectors Society for 2002-2003, you do not qualify for the drawing by joining for 2003-2004 (the drawing is for RENEWING memberships.) However, if you want to join for 2002-2003, you can do that and qualify if you renew for 2003-2004.

Clear?

Bert,

I agree with you. I've got my order in for the 3 Lighthouses- I'm passing on the Bridge.

Although, I wouldn't refuse the gold one if I happened to win it.

Anyone know if the Golden Gate Bridge sculpture includes Lime Point Lighthouse (either the way it looks today or, even better, with the keepers dwelling intact as it was when the bridge was first built)?
Can't tell from the on-line picture (although it looks unlikely that the sculpture includes the keepers dwelling).
That would make two lighthouses in one sculpture!

No, Frank. No Lime Point. Just Fort Point.

John,

I need to get my eyes checked- I completely missed Fort Point in the Golden Gate Sculpture.

That makes it a Lighthouse Sculpture also. I'm going to have to rethink this one.

I would like to see a picture that showed a little more detail of the Fort Point area.

Wow, those are two great releases! It might sound kind of funny, but I'm looking forward to getting East Brother and being able to point to the room I'll sleep in. These definitely make up for the new releases.

The Society Pieces look good, but I'm not sure I understand the whole bridge thing. Fort Point or not, it just seems to me as H.L. is straying a bit to much. With so many lighthouses in need of recognition, I'm not sure I get this one. Jeffery's Hook is about all I need to see of a bridge. Maybe they're trying to branch out and reach non lighthouse people, but I know my dealer kinda bemaons the fact she's got a lot of H.L. sitting on her shelves already she's having a hard time selling. Not sure this is the answer. Will get the Society Pieces though.

The bridge is an open edition. This indicates that HL thinks it will sell well over a long period. I believe this is another example of HL producing a product for the general public, rather than us collectors of LE's. Production and sales of this type of item, imo, help subsidize the production of the LE's - keeping them afforable and maintaining the lower edition sizes.

Good News! I received my Lighthouse Legacy in the mail yesterday and the Golden Gate Sculpture DOES include Lime Point. It's the way it is today (the fog signal building is still standing), not the way it was when the bridge was completed (as I would have preferred), i.e. a "now" sculpture, not a “then”. But it’s there nonetheless.
The on-line photo wasn't clear enough to tell. What looked like a whiter color on one end of one of the tower piers, is clearly, in the color photo on page 3, a separate structure. In the larger photo of the gold-plated version on page 5, you can clearly see the windows in the fog signal building.
Even though this sculpture includes lighthouses, I agree with Mombo. I wouldn’t think of this as an item targeted to LE collectors. If I didn’t have so much interest in the San Francisco area (Yelena’s daughter lives in Oakland, my aunt & uncle who now live in Tuolumne used to live in San Jose, one of my mom’s favorite cities, etc.), I would not be as interested in buying it. My main decision now is whether or not it will be a gift.
