I'm so glad! I drove from Seattle to Baltimore and while I was on my way, I went to Michigan City and took a picture of the lighthouse. I called my friend when I got to Baltimore, and he went to our local HL dealer and got the retired Michigan City Lighthouse at retail. Great. Then I sent him the picture I had taken. He said, this doesn't look at all like the HL version. Turns out there are two! Since my policy is to buy what I've seen, I'm really glad this one is coming out. Now I've just got to get back there and see the other one! Dixie

I know Paul has been lobbying hard for this lighthouse for 2-3 years.
Congratulations, Paul!

Make that since June of 1997, John. The very first time I met Bill Younger (the first of many signings) I asked him to autograph my photo album. The first picture on the opening page was a picture of Old Michigan City lighthouse. I asked him if they had any plans to do the lighthouse, even though they had already done the Pier Light. He told me that “it was in the works” and they definitely were going to do it. As I later learned at a future signing, Bill Younger and Harbour Lights are wanting to do all of the lighthouses in the world some day. I have been mailing cards requesting Old Michigan City lighthouse ever since. It became a standard routine whenever I would see Bill… I would always ask him when they were going to do Old Michigan City Lighthouse and I would always receive the standard response that they were going to do it. It just doesn’t get any better than this!!! SaintWackoPaul ' Keep the Flame

This will certainly make a great Christmas piece, as I mentioned in the thread Paul linked up above. We have the correct colors and all! Can't wait for this one. Dave [This message has been edited by Dave H (edited 05-17-2001).]

Here's the photo of the piece as it appears in the Legacy - with some color tweaking by PLB. Notice the two kids having a snowball fight and the snowman, lower left. [This message has been edited by JChidester (edited 05-18-2001).]

Cool John, Thanks! Those kids having a snowball fight gave me an idea. Harbour Lights ought to include the dueling photographers on a lighthouse. LOL

See, there IS more than corn in Indiana!!! I too was very excited when HL's contacted me a couple of months ago to commission a painting of the next Christmas Piece. It was very hard to keep it a secret when I learned it was to be Michigan City.

AWSOME! Another Great Lakes Christmas Piece, and a perfect choice at that. Afterall, I hear they do get a little snow on that side of the lake. Great Idea with the snowball fight, but in modern times I'd be looking for the Gaurdsman coming to throw them off the property! (Legal issues and liability and all)

Well, since were adding our Old Michigan City pictures I thought I would show more of the south side of the building, but I don't see the dead tree in back, do we need to plant a dead tree here too? (to increase accuracy) And as you may know FSB is the contract electrical supplier to all Indiana lighthouses, in the background you can see reactor #7. And contrary to the NRC, Tim and I DO know what were doing!

The tree on this piece bears (pun intended) a striking resemblance to the one under discussion in another thread (St. Helena). Will this HL be another in the "Some Assembly Required Series"?

Maybe if we leave (another pun intended) this piece out until spring it will grow leaves which will turn lovely shades of red and yellow come fall which will gradually fall off as winter once again approaches? Will it come with a rake?

Now for another Idea on the tree.Perhaps HL could have included 2 detachable trees. One with leaves and one without leaves , but then we would need removable snow to uncover the grass and roof etc.
While I do not have all the Christmas pieces it has become a tradition in our family for us to give the HL Christmas piece of the year to my Mom signed no less . I know she will love this one . The colors are great .
Congrats Paul. The four year wait looks worth it from the pics .

Hey Bright Eyes, ...not to change the subject, but I ended up finding a one-owner 1990 Corvette Coupe, 6-speed, every option, 2 tops, Polo Green with Saddle interior. 67K on the "clock" and looks and runs like new. I bought it from an electrical engineer who also added the K&N filter kit, Borla Mufflers, and underdrive pulleys. The previous owner was fussy and even had a lift in one of the four bay garage at his house. It was a super find, for sure! "We now return to the actual meaning of this thread. Thank you for standing by during this brief interuption." Bob

I think this will be a beautiful Christmas piece. I'm only doubtful about the kids. I haven't been overly fond of people in the pieces (except for Middle Bay).

Not to rain on the parade but right off the columns on the porch appear too wide and too white? Hey, Joanne, you know what they say, "Christmas is for kids"! Not sure that I'd care for people on lots of HL's but I do like those on Cape Henlopen as they reflect what was apparently a popular activity before it took its tumble.

I am very happy to see Old Michigan City as the Christmas piece! I had a special feeling about this lighthouse when I visited it. The building is very photogenic. I enjoyed the museum inside also. Plus the museum staff asked me about Door County lighthouses (they recognized them on my tshirt).

My dealer notified me today by email that he has already shipped my Christmas HL and Sullivans Island. I figure it should be here in the next two days. Now what HL do I remove from one of my curios so I can display Sullivans Island? Note: The new Christmas piece will only be displayed during December with all my other Christmas HLs. Bob

Bob - Maybe you should just rotate all of your pieces by moving them down and to the right in the curios. That way the new pieces would be on the upper left (top shelf) and the ones put away come from the bottom right. This way you don't have a difficult decision to make. Of course you can always fill the bedroom with curios and sleep in the car.

Hi Ron, ... I thought when I built the addition on my house a couple of years ago, my display and storage areas would be sufficient when it comes to HL's and AB's. Wrong!!!! Then I built an electric train layout in my cellar that measures twelve feet by four feet. This gave me additional storage underneath the layout for all those empty boxes. Now I find I'm still short of space. I suppose I could fill my bedroom with boxes but would you want to sleep in a Corvette every night? (LOL) Bob

Received my Christmas piece in Jacksonville today and as usual it is magnificent. Personally I like the size. There were about 3 years in a row that the were really big and heavy. This matches up nicely next to last years piece.
